Hi,

Have been using for a few days, and so far all good on most device (most of the viewing done on PS3).

My issue is with the WII, I'm always getting error aip-703 when trying to watch something.

I suspect the app thinks it's one country and dns says it's another, but not sure how to go about fixing that - any ideas?

Anyone successfully using dns4me with a wii?

Thanks

Hi mad01

We have had a few people have the same issue (on ps3/roku/iPad) it seems to have started after a netflix outage about a week ago, the aip-703 error your seeing is a connection issue to one of the netflix servers.
If you like i can move your account to a different node in the us (we have had some success moving customers to different nodes), this issues seems to be effecting alot of local US residents as well.

Thanks

Working brilliantly so far. Cheers!

Yes please if think this might fix it then give it a go.

I don't understand why only the Wii is affected though...

Hi mad01,

I have just PM you some instructions let me know if they work, if not i will change your server.
Has the Wii worked with netflix on our service before? i personally haven't tried it, but i do have a Wii somewhere and can run some tests if need be.

Thanks

This is quite interesting.

Just using the dns4me hostfile, the Roku 3 appears to still require the dns4me DNS servers to be entered into the router, or else it won't show the "Movies" (M-Go) and "TV Shows" menu items i.e. it doesn't think you're in the US.

Netflix and Amazon Prime work OK on the Roku without the DNS server entries (using the host file in the router is sufficient), but there must be something different with how the Roku itself geolocates.

[EDIT] Got it working:

1) Used dnsmasq to provide alternative DNS's (those of dns4me) for just my Roku according to its MAC address
2) Able to continue to use my ISP's DNS's for everything else

Gotta love open source firmware.

Here's what you need to enter into tomato's dnsmasq custom configuration:

# Assign alternate DNS for select hosts
# Set Specific Clients to be affected
dhcp-mac=set:altdns,XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX #PC 1
dhcp-mac=set:altdns,YY:YY:YY:YY:YY:YY #PC 2

# Set Alternate DNS
dhcp-option=tag:altdns,option:dns-server,208.122.23.22,208.122.23.23

Obviously edit the above values as needed.

(Source: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/assign-specific-dns-to-only-certain-clients.68865/)

In fact this is useful for anyone wanting to use a Roku or other device which needs router-level DNS, but you would rather not trust all of your network's DNS needs to your geo-unblocking provider.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Hi sultanoswing

This is my biggest gripe with the roku and the only reason i don't use it as my primary streaming device, Both Netflix and Dishworld apps have googles DNS servers hard coded into the apps too, so you need to block 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (why any sane developer would do this is beyond me it could impede your streaming speed even in the USA, as the CDN node you will be allocated is the closest to the DNS server)

Thanks

Hi n0exit

Sky Go most likely has conflicting domains with another service, send me an email jasonk at dns4me.net when your free to run some tests.

Hi n0exit

I managed to get my hands on a Sky Go account and am planning on adding it as a service, they are using the same video content system as NBC, CBS, NBC Sports, History Channel, A&E, Lifetime networks, SBS On Demand and Ten play.

They all use theplatform (http://theplatform.com/) how dear sky purchase a cheap and crappy third party platform and charge a premium for there service (oh wait its sky lol wouldn't expect anything less).

So if you disable the "NBC, CBS, NBC Sports, History Channel, A&E and Lifetime networks" service and the SBS/Ten play ones if they are turned on it will work.

Thanks

Hi Jason,

How often does the service update the ip if I am using ddns?

I noticed a few problems when we were having connection issues with our ISP and we got our ip changed a couple of times.

The first is that it seems it didn't update the ip when using ddns.

The second (which is odd) is that even after everything had successfully updated, on some websites I would get the dns4me topbar displayed on the top of the page on a different website (such as netflix) and the website would continue to be usable except that topbar would continue to display.

Hi charsleysa

The system checks the dnyamic DNS's every 5 minutes.

Im not sure what you mean by the top bar, when an invalid IP is detected on the DNS server the entire page should redirect to the dns4me website, it never loads part of the page. next time you see this behaviour can you do us a favour and take a screenshot and email it to me.

Thanks
Jason k

Yep. Me too.

EDIT: and I can't login to my dns4me account - it says my password is invalid (despite resetting it).

Netflix still plays on my laptop, as I'm using the custom generated host file on my router, which doesn't rely on dns4me. It's just not working on my Roku, which relies on dns4me's DNS being "live".

Long story short - I'm picking it's a problem specifically with dns4me.
