Behodar: The email gives a deadline of the 21st so I wouldn't expect it to cease yet, email or not.

Yeah, that point occurred to me not long after performing my very inconclusive test. :-)

The deadline has passed. Did anyone actually get cut off? I didn't get an email and Now is still working for me.

No email here, but I initially thought I'd been cut off.

But I logged out and back in again, and was able to resume streaming.

I did get the email last week but I'm still logged in and HBO is working OK. I don't think I should try logging out just yet.

Maybe the list of terminations is just too big to kill them all at once or are they just waiting for the first monthly billing to happen :)

Did anyone watch the latest Game of Thrones on HBO Now last night?

We've been using it for all S5 episodes so far, and last night we had very noticeable issues with frames being dropped, resulting in HD video that was often quite jerky. This persisted for the entire show, but was perfectly fine for the preview of the next episode, and the 5 minute "Inside the Episode" bit. It is also the first time we've seen this with GOT on HBO Now.

We watch on an Apple TV3, and the following HBO show (Big Love) we watched had no issues with playback.

I wasn't sure which thread to post on, as there are several HBO now threads (mods - could you tidy up, maybe closing a few, so we can track on one thread?).

So I have HBO Now as try over the weekend on my Apple TV2 (on wifi with Unifi AP in same room), unblock-us and US iTunes account.  Easy as to sign up, and works fine, except for poor picture quality (even credits where fuzzy) and one instance of buffering to the point where audio and video where out of sync (and I had to restart the stream).

However it still works as of last night.  And I know unblock-us support this service, so I would imagine it will be cat and mouse for a while, then be like NetFlix and Hulu+ where they (the provider) just quietly accept it and get a nice increase on their monthly income.

Has anyone seen better picture quality?  If so, how? What are your settings?

We use Netflix, Lightbox, Hulu & HBO Now, and out of all of those, HBO is the service that is far more temperamental WRT picture quality.

We use an Apple TV 3, connected to our router via Powerline ethernet over power adapters. With this setup, we generally get around 7-10 Mbps from our ADSL2 connection. HBO Now usually gives us a picture anywhere between SD & HD, with a HD picture a little harder to obtain during peak viewing hours (although it was OK last night).

We're also not really loving it's UI. It is particularly weak in keeping track of what you're watching. We're used to other services taking us back to the exact episode we're up to in a particular series, but this is something that HBO doesn't seem to do.

Hmm, I will try Ethernet to my switch, but I am only on ADSL2+, but I am due to move to fibre this week (BigPipe, 200/200) so it will be interesting to see if that has an effect on picture quality.

I would have loved to have signed up but the only IOS device I have is my wife's iPhone 6 and she is reluctant to have me fiddle with it. And even so at the time, the only way I could have watched would been on her device.

But I since discovered that this software I own

http://www.playon.tv/playlater/channels

can actually record HBO Now so I could have signed up and just recorded the shows I wanted to watch and watch them on my TV (since Playlater just creates MP4 files)

Interesting that you bring this up. We've been on the HBO Now Free trial through ATV 3 for the last month, on a Snap 100/50 UFB connection. picture quality has been outstanding throughout, akin to a Blu Ray, and no buffering. Last night was our last night of the free trial and it suddenly went pear shaped. Picture Quality dire and couldn't even get through the opening sequence of GoT without it buffering for so long it was unwatchable.

I presume that something has changed with the connection somewhere between here and HBO's servers. Perhaps it's intentional as we know they do know want subscribers from outside of the U.S. But the timing is a pain as I was considering paying to keep the service but I don't really feel like laying down US$15 now if it's going to be like this from now on.

Out of interest can somebody guide me to how to setup a HBO Now account?

I tried on my wife's iPhone but could not see the app in the store. I then found the app in the iTunes app store on my PC (I was using Unotelly) but even after I transferred it to her phone, when I started it up, it said I need to purchase the application.

Is it possible to actually purchase the app from the app store from a phone? That would be easier. Do I need a VPN, a DNS service and/or a US iTunes account (I have that but my wife's iPhone is attached to her own NZ accoount).

Thanks

I probably can't be too much help, as I set mine up directly on my Apple TV. But I would imagine you'd need to have a US iTunes account, your wife's phone logged into that account, and a US VPN or DNS configured on her phone to use during the sign up process.
