I have decided to move here to quit hijacking the Netflix thread. Here are a couple of recent quotes:
Quote: networkn: But that's the thing, you are talking about "feelings" and feelings don't apply. Only legal rights do, and you don't HAVE any.
Actually, that's not true. I have the right not to be discriminated against on racial and other grounds. I have a number of other rights as well. Any business that wants to do business anywhere has to conform to local laws governing its activity. Once again, the real issue is about definition of terms. My definition of 'rights' is different. That is all.
Quote: I think thats a key point. Being in business is just that. Decisions are made what to sell, where to sell, what needs the buyer has to maximise their hefty purchase (pride, retention, new customers, advertising) Feelings don't come onto it, and feelings of ire, wants and needs, angst against the establishment and businesses doesnt come into it. Issues with profits is bizarre, we are all looking for a profit, all of us. We support profits directly and indirectly. Its about being a realist. We will ione day get eveything here, at a cost. Or we can makeup reasons to demand it now from society, cos we can.
As a realist, I know that running a business involves risk. Just imagine what it must be like having a business in Baghdad, or Kabul. Part of the risk that goes with selling on-line content is the understanding that customers may use proxies to bypass your geo-restrictions. Or that customers may simply find a a better deal elsewhere, and go there. If you can't handle risk, you need to find another occupation.

Sorry but people kept continuing this discussion on the Netflix thread in spite of a request to move elsewhere because it had gone off-topic. So I tried to relocate it here because this is the thread that was previously discussing copyright issues, both in relation to YouTube and in general. I thought I was doing the right thing. Apologies if I got it wrong.
