@smcc, any idea who provides the WRC+ platform?  TVNZ uses Brightcove so its VOD assets are up almost immediately too.

Interestingly Lightbox moved from xstream to Brightcove - and at the time Sparks' CEO noted Brightcoves capability to handle livestream sport (TVNZ's livestream channels and the Commonwealth Games are probably testament to that too).  And yet SparkSport chose iStreamplanet (F1TV's provider).

Sorry, I don't know that level of detail I'm afraid.

Never mind.  Some providers crow about the platforms/services/customers they provide, others are extremely secretive.

I imagine you'll stay with WRCplus?  At $15/mth with no geo-restrictions and offering a deeper richer user experience (rather than just live and VOD for the event) it seems more attractive.

Not sure if the right place to ask, what are the chances Spark Sport will bid for the Australian Supercars in future against Sky Sport?

Sky have them locked up till 2021 afaik so not great in the short term. It will be a much bigger drawcard and higher viewer numbers than F1 too due to the race times

sdavisnz: Watched rugby on kayo Sports android tv app last night.
Crystal clear hd.

So we know it's doable.

I see that Kayo Sports has the RWC for Australia.  http://www.sportspromedia.com/news/kayo-sports-ott-rugby-world-cup-tv-rights-fox

In 4k UHD, I know where I'm watching the rugby world cup this year.

Kayo isn’t in 4k though. The only was to watch fox sports Australia in 4K is by subscribing to their satellite service.

Harsh.  Its a managerial transition, not a falling on the sword.  Although the CEO will be gone before the RWC (success or failure) - and before the financial implications of a bidding war for sports are documented in the annual results.

In the UK it took until BT started to raise BTSports prices (and have subscriber declines) before the BT CEO got the boot.

That explains a lot... I've not heard very positive things about F1TV.

It had a big shocker for the Melbourne race this year - dont know how well it went for Bahrain.

F1TV for AppleTV is still pending (a year after F1TV launched!).  And the reviews for its IOS app are not great.....  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/f1-tv/id1315007279?mt=8

Can't see how they compare. The reviews show F1TV has crashes, there is no Chromecast, and no landscape mode. F1TV is not new, at least when I watch SS on my old iPad, casting to my plasma, its perfect visually and stable and reliable. Yes, there are beta type issues, needs navigation capability for the timeline, i.e. thumbnails.. I can't comment on any Android issues.

EDIT

If I had  remote, such as on an ATV4 app, its Netflix easy

From what I Know F1TV had issues in Australia, but was actually pretty good for Bahrain (Apart from not steaming Pictures (Audio Only) for the 2nd F2 Race), (Don't ask how I know), however they only cover the actual sessions, and don't have the pre/post session banter on SKYUK, they also have add in shows hosted by Will Buxton (ex F2 and NBC US Commentator) - He does my head in so which is why I will prefer to watch Spark Sport.

F1TV's picture quality is probably better that SS (Less skipped frames and Jitter), and they have multiple feeds including multi screen (Pitlane), driver tracker, timing screens, and On boards with team radio on each car, and they allow you to run multiple screens at once. But as stated by others they haven't got around to doing all the things they promised at launch (in 2018), like adding more platforms (Amazon Fire TV, Roku , smart TV's etc), or added any casting ability, or event Landscape in the app (except when playing the stream). Given FOM's resources it seems like they have seriously under-invested in this capability.

Why isn't there a sub-group for Formula 2, the F2 races cant be found under any sub-group.

Interesting.

Not streaming pictures just audio?

Don't have the pre post session banter?

I find SS using my chosen platform to be great. Butter smooth 1080p. No video is a no go. Not going pre post banter is a no go, SS has this also. Picture quality? SS is butter smooth. My issues are just the ads, thumbnails to FF, the actual feed is great. I dont do jitter, and for my chosen platform , no jitter

I assume.... F1 is the category. That covers F1, F2, GP3, and probably the Porsche Cup. The latter two haven't started yet. The SS categories are top level. Rugger, Rally F1 etc. F1 is I expect the FIA series's

F2 started last weekend, and the only way to get to it is via Recently Added section.

They do need to sort out the categories; motorsport > single seat > F1, F2, etc. as its confusing at the moment to find stuff Should then break down in to Race weekends so that all the FPs and Qualifying as well as pre-race, post race and other content is contained by the event... Also why is there a Formula 1 World Championship sub-category but it contains only last years races and not the 2 from this year?

If you ask me, it would make a lot of sense to take all the rugby highlights etc and start dumping them out as an additional Linear test channel stream. Call it Spark Rugby Channel, or whatever.

When pubs and clubs, Hotel etc are looking for a commercial agreement  for the RWC and easy way to integrate into their TV systems. Having a linear 24x7 streamed channel makes a LOT of sense.  Especially in terms of expected bandwidth needed.

They could also do that with F1, there is alot of F1 support pieces that Sky UK do that could be put together to make a F1 channel.
