LH44:

Contact the support team, they should be able to manually sort this out for you. There have been a few reports of this. It should be resolve by version 1.5.5.3, but not sure about deployment yet :)

Last time I contacted the support team, they gave me little assistance, aside from try it again in a few hours. I'm not going to bother trying that again.

Just spent some time comparing quality between TVNZ1 and SparkSport (both Chromecast and TV App) during the Argentina Tonga game...

Gotta say, still a noticeable quality difference with TVNZ1 presenting the better overall experience.

The two main factors that I've noticed:

  • The stream has some fairly decent compression artifacts on areas that are "not action", basically the grass looks like s**t most of the time - this is actually more of a distraction that you may think!
  • The framerate does not seem as smooth. Panning shot seem more jolty on the stream.

These issues are certainly not absolute deal breakers, but I'd prefer to watch the TVNZ1 broadcast when available, and just show that Spark has a ways to go (even when everything is working as designed). Similar stream quality via the TV App and via Chromecast built-in.

Setup:

Sony 4K, Android TV.

Wired network

Vodafone 100mb Fibre

Yes, I see that too. I watch F1, and thats primo on SS. I see that grass artifacts on SkySportNow as well. Given that F1 is primo and RWC has these artefacts that would seem to point to the source feed. Interesting that you noticed the grass issue no one else has

Hey Matt, is your chromecast outputting 50hz or 60hz? Sounds like the later which will be making it a tad jarring.

Also speculation. But sounds like your not sitting at full quality.

Yes I wondered that too, certainly possible that I am not at full quality, and the compression artifacts  perhaps could due to that - but this is kinda the point.... What I was really trying to do is view as a regular-folk. That is, as basic as possible (App install/Chromecast -> go), although I suspect being wired already puts me one tier above regular-folk :D

Chromecast is built in and 4K60 Youtube videos look stunning through it.

edit: So far into the Japan Ireland game, seeing the same thing. On the flipside though, SparkSport definitely has a better picture in some areas, such as:

  • Onscreen graphics, noticeable when the TMO interface comes up
  • Close up shots, slow motion replays, and basically anything that is not a wide panning shot/regular general play looks sharper on SpSp

If this post https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=151&topicid=243611&page_no=160 is to be believed, Spark Sport are not competent enough to write an app that can do video at 1080p 60fps on Sony TVs

Other apps on my Sony Youtube, Plex, Primevideo have no problem paying 4k 60 fps

The Spark Sport app just looks like a low res pile of ???.
Streaming via the built in chromecast, the quality is good, but there is some micro stutter in the frames. More so in some games than others.

If I didn't also have a Samsung TV, I would have ask for my money back by now.

Anyone else having issues playing ire v Japan live from the beginning? App just spins if I run from beginning but works if I play same video from live. Very frustrating as I've missed 20 minutes. Tried 2 Android devices.

Seeing lots of quality issues in the Japan vs Ireland game. Quality dropping out badly. Started a little in the previous game and has gone worse on this game. Was working fine all week.

No issues here. ATV4 to Panny plasma

I wish they'd sort out the video freezes in ads and prod feeds

Prod feeds being in house production

Are you watching JPN vs IRE tonight?  Are you seeing grass artifacts? Motion issues?

Me, the overall quality is near enough to 10/10, broadcast quality, no grass issues, motion is fine, Ive seen 1 quick quality drop, Mr N has seen 3. Interested to see what you see.
