From some of the comments there... Stuff and Herald write full stories based on that drivel.

Like i said right from the start, They should of put a RWC linear channel acessable from the apps and website.  Most people who true fans will watch all the games. Having a linear feed that they can click on and leave running solves a load of dramas of hopping in and out of apps and starting on demand games.

Quite likely there could be 50000+ watching via the linear stream, taking a huge load off of the ondemand assetts

The Linear feed should be the PRIME online delivery method

Crowbar:

Sky copped flak for ads in the past. They are certainly a better production house how and understand that a game like that requires a little longer post-match before cutting to ads. Spark don't get this yet, they're still learning. Being called out on it will help with their learning.

The ad break after IREvJPN was way too quick, there's no question there.

As long as that ad break was their choice and not the source feed's

Have a read of the SS FB page. I’m a SS truther but it’s embarrassing now. Won’t be surprised if they pull the pin tomorrow.

Exactly! There are hundreds and hundreds of complaints every week, you choose to slag off the media for reporting wide spread issues. Keeping your head in the sand doesn’t mean the problems don’t exist.

@sbiddle summed it up perfectly on Twitter - "It really doesn't matter if performance issues with the RWC are the fault of Spark Sport or not, the simply reality is there are large numbers of people during most RWC games suffering performance issues.".

Spark should have never agreed to support the TV Apps and their platform as there is no standard between these and prone to a ton of issues.
Instead - they should have focused on key platforms but also should offer a backup with satellite similar to the deal that they did with Sky for the commerical premises.

Reminds me of the Census - awesome to push the boundaries but there was just no alternative for those that did not want to complete it using the internet!

Yeah, from reading the complaints it sounds like most of them come from the smart TV apps, the ones using Chromecast or Apple TV seem to be having a much better experience.

Other than the AB's game I've had a flawless* experience across Chromecast on the Shield TV, Kodi with the Spark Sport plugin, Apple TV with the native App and Apple TV via airplay. So I don't have my head in the sand thanks.

Last night I started the Georgian game with the Samsung TV Spark Sports app and then onto the Aus - Wales, there was no issue until 5 mins into the Aus game when the screen started to lag, fade, etc.  I immediately switch to my backup plan of a Google Chromecast Ultra from my Sony android phone for the rest of the game it it was perfect.

So in my opinion that the issue lie with the TV app for when the stream is heavy demand for these bigger games.

I only have VDSL  30 - 50 MB down and 20 up.

Same here. I see and hear a lot of stuff but I dont see it in my living room. As well as the audio issues which was at the start, there was a myriad of issues during the match, media reported.

TV app or the TV? When the TV app is running and its under heavy demand, where is the CPU located?

If there was heavy demand for this bigger games (when they have stated many times thats not the case, internationally or domestically) how can you CCu and Android home help? If too many users is the issue the entire feed will be affected.

You got it working well, so your VDSL, and CCu and Android and too many users inst the issue

Its your SS TV app or its the TV CPU, thats how I see it.

So, who's responsibility is it, if the App isn't up to the job?

As expected, when you point out (in stuff comments) the pointless articles about Spark Sport are based on a few negative comments, they don't allow it. Maybe already mentioned, why does Stuff want to hate on Spark?

So, who's responsibility is it, if the App isn't up to the job?

My point is, is it the smart tv app or the smart tv? Lets say for example, the app is brilliant, but the TV can't cut it with CPU load. The CPU that drives the app is in the TV. The app is the car the TV is the motor.

The anomaly all through here is that if there are 50000 viewers and there is an issue, its not occurring on all 50000 viewers. (I'm ignoring known issues where that was the case) Last night there were a myriad of issues after the known audio mixup. Why didn't all of them have it?  That theme has been constant here.

If the SS app is bung its Sparks issue

If some TV cant cut the demand, its the TV, but perhaps then Spark shouldn't have supported it. But then what? It works on my Netfix ok why not SS??? Maybe because your TV can manage a movie with slow or regular mouton, but maybe it cant handle 60fps of fast panning, and balls, and motion smoothing.

Or, why else are many of these issues not duplicated across everyone. You would expect a general alignment of issues. Or, maybe some apps are well built , others aren't? Thats possible. Seems to be ok on standard devices such as ATV4, CCu, etc.

Just putting it out there, the level of issues is all over the place. Then I read here how it was all good.
