they had enough complaints that they put the second half on Duke, you have to remember Geekzone members are not the demographic that will have problems.

perhaps, but it tells you the issue isn’t necessarily with Sparks service.

No issues at my place, even as I was streaming something else at the same time for the first 10 minutes.

it doesnt matter whos fault it is, the outcome is that  a lot of people paid money to Spark and they couldnt watch the RWC. i said at the beginning it is going to be a problem for the average Rugby fan who doesn't even know what casting is and it seems to be the case.

Thats true. But I cant blame Honda if I keep denting the car. Users have had months to get up to speed.

Maybe to take the analogy a bit further, it’s like someone hiring a horse float (Spark Sport) and then expecting to tow it with said Honda. All good on the flat, but as soon as anything more is required it sputters and stops. So it must be the fault of the horse float. Not the car’s fault, it has a tow bar so it must be able to tow.

or maybe you ask the horse float owner if your Honda can tow it and you get told no problem it will be easy

The stream has been freezing briefly every few seconds for most of the second half. The first half was fine, so was the whole England vs Aus game.

• LG 2019 Smart TV (using the app)
• Ethernet
• Gig fibre

Most likely an app issue?

I don’t think there’s an app issue. We have a LG 2019 C9 TV running the app, TV on wifi, 100/25 fibre. We watched right through two games from 8:00 pm to 1:30 am and had not one single glitch of any kind (no buffering, freezing, pixelation etc) - rock-solid.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

While it didn’t bother me, I would love a technical explanation of why the game stream was flawless but the studio/ads were buffering.

Crowbar:

Yeah, reloaded Kodi and it was back to excellent quality.

So third party application issue? Hmm...

I wonder if rather than trying to support so many devices and applications they would have been better picking 3-5 and doing it well. Some mates last night had issues with a laptop, swapped laptops after 20 minutes and smooth sailing from then. Just too many devices in play, too many variables.

Problem with that is then people start jumping up and down saying "why you don't support my device? It's so much better than <other device>?" It's a bit of a no-win game, sadly :(

I think so too, was at a friends house watching on the same set up. Had the same freezing. The I put it on my phone via skinny 4G data, and I was over a minute a head. I think some of the tv apps have trouble purging the ram used so after watching the same stream for a while it starts freezing.

I think @JarrodM is right. The stream quality itself never dropped, probably just our cheap smart TV (LG 60UM7150PTA) not handling it. @Eracode your model might have a superior smart tv spec given it's a much better TV.

Yep, Kayo supports web, iOS/android, Apple tv and chromecast. By supporting so many tv apps spark sport have set an expectation that they’ll be supported into the future along with the new models each year. That could tie up a lot of development time. If they could go back in time I think they might’ve come to a different decision around supporting so many different tv apps.

Wouldn't all that be subbed out to their main software provider, who would provide similar platforms to providers all over the world?

Most complaints seem to relate to Panasonic, LG and using the APP.

With play stalling every few seconds or going into slomo. Where are all the techy people on here? who could be nailing down the issues with wireshark caps etc from the devices and other troubleshooting?

Seems the app itself needs a lot of work in particular recovering from a drop in users bandwidth or adjusting to the abilitys of a users device.
