We're going hoarse explaining the _fact_ that load has never been an issue for the platform. It was built to handle whatever load could be thrown at it - not just Spark - but every ISP had a good program of work to build the infrastructure required.

Anyone blaming load, or attributing performance to variations on platform demand are just plain wrong.

There are some odd idiosyncrasies with platform though. I spent time last weekend going through the WTA Moscow/Luxembourg material (OT sorry). Pause/skips all the way through content and negotiated lower bitrate in certain places. Replaying showed no reduced bitrate however. The periodic jerks that seemed to be inherent in most material appear to have disappeared. Half time adverts in TVNZ mixed content all freeze in certain places, every advert, why is this??

I had excellent streaming last nite.  I'm surprised that Stuff isn't running an article this morning blaming the ABs loss on Spark Sport..

@old3eyes I bet most people would of watched it live on TV1

You're are most likely right but as I paid for it I was going to watch it streaming.

But not the 3rd place game.. oops!

I am surprised neither the Herald or Stuff published an article blaming the All Blacks losing on Spark Sport.

This was bad enough. I thought the top portion of NZH was for generalistic new stories.

Not 8 of the same in different articles. Theres still 3 headlining it now!

So was I, but maybe it will come, as the media are still working the angles on this one. At least it is now summer, and rugby is hopefully over for the year.

I had read that the 3/4 place game is not being broadcast of FTA, and only on spark. Probably because noone expected NZ to be playing in it? Guessing many people don't care about this game and won't bother watching, as it is like rubbing salt into a wound. But anyone know if spark are streaming it free like they did with the last two semi finals games?

I can see Wales treating it as a final, and they will come out hard (hopefully) and give the NZ team a hard game. NZ does want to at least finish 3rd. The fact is that England are the best team at the world cup, they outclassed the NZ team. NZ beating SA, make them probably second best. But the draw didn't work for them, which is one of the flaws with the World Cup tournaments format, as often the best two teams don't make it to the final. The England / NZ game probably should have been the teams that made it into the final.

I watched the Spark streaming for the last two games, and it all worked fine, and the quality seemed as good as FTA. My only issue is that the compression isn't great, the grass isn't as detailed as it could be and sometime looks muggy when there is a lot of detailed fast moving content. That is probably because the file size of a image with all that grass detail is very large, and constantly changing. But I would like to  see less compression, or 4k, which then should downscale to a sharper 1080 picture. That is probably an issue with the streaming  technology at the moment.  Not sure if FTA UHF coverage was any better or not, probably not.

the paying SparkSport people now have something to value.

they better play their outgoing stars that they've locked up in the closet so far.

"England / Springboks scrape home in dour game dominated by kicking. RWC blighted by return of ten-man rugby. Spectators say game 'was not much of a spectacle' and 'was completely one-dimensional'"

No need to wait, there's the report all ready for you ;)

BTW, this will be the report even if the actual score is 42-33, six tries to five, and it was a brilliant open game of rugby.
LOL

I watched them lose live on Sky to France in 1999, live on sky in 2003 to Australia, live on Sky in 2007 to France, nearly lost in 2011 to France (the guy missed a penalty from out in front when we were 1 point ahead and had no idea what to do - but neither did France lol).
