Not really a moan, but a huge inconvenience compared to my other (but more expensive) provider.

I have asked this question before and was told to ask for a "whatever?" (can't recall exact phrase) ip address as BigPipe do not provide a "static" ip address similar to what I had previously with Telecom.

Put in a request quite a few months ago and it worked well for some time with no changes (or least very few) to my IP address. Now it just seems to change every few days and the kids and missus are driving me nuts saying BBC does not work or Netflix does not work. Yes Yes I know. Unotelly has registered yet another IP address change, but try explaining that to them.

What do I need to do because something is not quite right with this fine service. Are my expectations too high and do I need to go back to Telecom?

Any help appreciated because I did not realise that losing a static IP address could cause so much grief.

Sounds like bigpipe may use a dynamic pool for public ip addresses they hand out now.

as far as i know of, they dont do static ips currently.

As for your ip changing alot, this shouldn't happen. Likely cause is your xdsl dropping, maybe you should look into improving that situation.

You don't have a static IP therefore it'll change whenever. Set up Dynamic DNS on your router and use a provider like DNS4ME :)

If you are on a CG NAT IP address this will happen. I am suprised you managed to get thru an entire evening with it working TBH.

hio77: as far as i know of, they dont do static ips currently.

No static IPs at present, but last time I queried they were expected within three months, although there were no guarantees.

That was about month ago, so hopefully they're still on track for static IPv4 addressing by the end of the year.

I hope that's still the case, because my connection goes live on Monday, and once my 'free' month and $100 credit runs out, I'm not going to be paying for two Internet connections.

I'm fairly sure the OP's first post meant they requested and received a public (the ~~world~~word they were looking for) IP so aren't behind CGNAT. As I understand it, BigPipe will give you a dynamic public IP on request and without charge. I don't get why it keeps changing though. I agree with others that while being dynamic it's not guaranteed to stay the same, it seems unlikely this would happen a lot unless you are having connection problems (or they are being disconnected for inactivity), but I don't work for or currently use BigPipe so can't say for sure.

Do you have a master filter? If your broadband drops intermittently due to poor wiring or errors on your line, this will cause your IP to change.

Above would be the most likely reason for your IP changing on a too regular basis. Send through a support ticket and we can have a look for you.

Otherwise we do have Static IP launching this week as an alternative as well (this won't solve any connection issues you have though).

Many thanks to you both. I think Coffeebaron hit the nail on the head. I'm not so sure that there is a mastersplitter and do not even know how to check this out as the telecom (overhead) wires go straight into a point of the house that I cannot get near to check. This may however be a mute point as we could be moving next year, so might just grin and bear it. Apart from that have been very pleased with BigPipe VDSL. The static IP will help.
