Can confirm fibre down with Bigpipe and 2Degrees and other ISPs. South Island wide outages.

Maybe Gerry Brownlee got so peeved with Kaikoura earthquakes he stamped his foot and ruptured the lines.

I was going to suggest we might need to add more resource / money to ensure ongoing connectivity in event of full Southern Alps rupture - but got scared to suggest it in case I get slammed like Geonet suggesting more monitoring resource would be good. Ol Gerry was not in a good mood.

Is there a geonet equivalent for phone and internet outages? If you got the right group of people (like geekzoners) either acting as uptime monitors ( pinging every 5 minutes) or else self reporting and remembering to turn off the rpeort - it would be possible to help clients a whole lot better as a support person.

Have thought about this off and on for the last few years, but haven't really had the time or inclination too see it through

2D confirms it is VDSL as well as fibre (so would assume adsl as well) and it is Chch to Timaru but in weird patterns.

Kind of something like that for core network monitoring for a few ISPs
http://amp.wand.net.nz/matrix/latency/ipv4/nzamp/australia/icmp/

Would be cool to see some more people on the residential part - can't see anywhere taking signups
