I was standing in line at the door of the vaxx centre a couple of weeks ago to get my second jab. There was a person on the door doing temperature checks and asking questions before allowing entry.

A polynesian woman ahead of me asked about bringing her relatives to get vaxxed on a walk-in basis. The person on the door asked several questions about ID and did they have passports. I have no idea why. On reflection 15 minutes later it sounded kind of racist. Eventually the lady was told turn up and we'll figure it out. I had the impression all this was not a pleasant experience, it did not sound like it.

I don't recall being asked anything like this. My question is - what is the eligibility for vaccination and testing?

The PM said just being in New Zealand is enough, no questions asked.

That may not always be filtering down to the people on the ground. Was there not already one clear instance of that the other daY?

When I got my first shot about 5 weeks ago everyone had to prove their ID. Some did it with a driver's license, others with a passport. I just gave them my NIH number and that was enough for them to find me in their system (also verbally confirmed my full name, data of birth and contact number). I guess they want to record the vaccination info (date, type, batch, etc) on people's medical records, so they need some way to verify identity. Showing a passport is just one way to ID yourself, nothing racist about it.

@gzt also if they book online, there are no questions asked when visiting the vaccination place.

Booking online may reduce the fear/pressure some people may feel.

If you see something like this happening, you can take note of location, date and time and provide this as feedback to the MoH via their Facebook page or website.

The guidance was being in NZ is all you need.

BUT people may need to show ID if they don't have an NHI number to track the vaccination the appropriate registers.

Its NOT to confirm if you can have it.

My wife is Polynesian and was asked for her passport (or other ID) as it was a quick and easy to find her NHI number. She knew it her NHI, so it was a moot point and no ID was required. Also, for someone working on the frontline having a passport or other ID is just a simple way to make sure the spelling on the names if accurate. Our children have a mix of European and Polynesian names in their names and we never take offence when people ask.

If you don't want to pass ID you don't have to, you don't even need to give a NHI if you don't really want to. But when a vax passport comes you want your record of vaccination against your/correct NHI number.

All of my wifes family and friends have been vaxed and not one complained about feeling anything like racism.

We are also aware of several people waiting for repatriation flights back home to to "closed" pacific islands, who are essentially stuck in NZ with no (or the wrong) visas, that have had vaccinations no problem at all.

It's worth noting that if you are part of group 1 it is still a requirement to show ID as the consent process is different.

This is not the correct process.

Maybe the process has changed since I had my first shot on August 26 (I'm yet to have my second shot) but that's how the Birkenhead vaccination centre was working back then.

I can't speak for anyone else but when I got mine they just asked for my name and birthdate. That was all. No ID, no nothing else. With that information they were immediately able to find me in the system. I know because I watched the nurse doing it on a laptop. This was a walk-in, no advance booking.

I had my first one on 16 August and didn't need to show ID, just needed to confirm name/DOB to find my record. I did not have a booking.

I had my second one yesterday (with booking) and same details requested.
