The calories in/out way of thinking has been pretty well debunked.

Nutrition is incredibly complex and more than just looking at RDAs of particular nutrients.

I think you would be best served by concentrating your efforts on cooking with real foods and reducing consumption of anything processed.

I've used this one for a few months

http://diy.soylent.me/recipes/countdown-revised

I changed a few ingredient amounts to suit my requirements.

You can even have all the ingredients delivered.

Do you prepare in one big batch or smaller daily/weekly batches?

This is my version of "unsynchronized's" recipe

http://diy.soylent.me/recipes/nz-store-brought

I mix up the powders to make daily batches (in zip lock bags) with a few quarter batches for one off meals.

The liquids, eggs, multi-vitamin and prunes get added when I blend it all up with about 2 litres of water the night before.
Let it sit in the fridge over night.

You can easy adjust your calories in the amounts of oils.

^Taste okay? Is that what the prunes are for?

I like the taste.
My partner thinks its very salty with the eggs.

The prunes add carbohydrates, fibre and quite a few micro nutrients .
I've tried it with bananas as well but I prefer the taste of the prunes.

The other thing I like about this recipe is all of the ingredients look like "food" to me. Compared to a list of chemicals.

Reminds me of pikelet batter. (depending on the water you add)

One thing to remember is this is a food, not a drink. So keep an eye on any other snacks you're eating if you're using soylent for weight loss.

I split the days batch into 4 "meals" which I sip on during the day

YAY it arrived.
And it tastes pretty good - its like drinking a glass of milk with a hint of vanilla essence.
Its also not very powdery which i thought it would be after trying other similar shakes.
Now I am off to jaycar to buy a 12v peltier chip fridge for the car and some ice packs and drink bottles from the supermarket.

edit: I regret buying only a 2 week supply. The nzpost / youshop fee was quite a bit more than I expected and there is alot of wasted space inside the box it comes in.

Hi guys :)

I just wanted to let you know that I am the Co-Owner of Sipreme, the new New Zealand based supplier of powdered food :)

Feel free to go to our website and have a look - you can sign up for a free sample! We can't wait to get your feedback. Just like you, we are fans of Soylent, but got fed up with importing and DIY-ing, so here we go: Version 27 of our testing is now on the way!

Looks good. Is your recipe based on Soylent? If so which version?

Thanks for the response.

We worked from Soylent 1.3 and tweaked and changed it with some awesome products from Pacific Flavours and Invita - and voila. Well, voila after 27 tries to make it awesome :)

I see you have crowdfunding in 4 weeks time. So you're not very close to going live with your product?

Will you be doing this via kickstarter or a local version of it? When do you aim to be ready for commercial release?

itxtme: Its simple maths really, Calories in Vs Calories out.  Have you seen the the number of kj in a big mac combo for example?

There are a number of people that would disagree with that statement, as the body reacts to the source of the calories differently

Hi there :)

We are very close to going live - we have everything sorted. Manufacturers, suppliers, shippers, online store.. It's getting super close now. The test batch was a good run to show us where hiccups can occur, and we can fix them before we go live. The crowdfunding campaign is to spread awareness, and we will be starting with manufacturing very soon after the campaign.

We will be using PledgeMe, and went to meet the team in Wellington. All systems standing by - just need to make sure we spread the word and get at least 180 backers.

Exciting stuff! We have been going at it hard for five months, so there won't be a 6 months wait like Soylent before shipping.

Cool thanks for the reply. Would be cool if you could do another sample run before going live with PledgeMe, it's all about the flavour with soylent products.

I'd also recommend you looking into solid soylent as an expansion in the future. I'd be more keen on a food square rather than a liquid meal but that's just me. Good luck!

If you pop me an email I can send you one :) I'll put one aside especially. info@sipreme.co.nz

Thanks for the feedback :)

We will definitely look at bars next. We have been in contact with vending machine suppliers as well and are thinking of single serve packs for those.

Cheers!
