Ok so an update - I never went through with it. Surprise surprise.

First, when I emailed BigPipe, they were trying to be helpful and told me I should let the new ISP handle the request. I tried explaining it to them but then I got sick and ended up stuck at home for a few days. I figured I'd keep it until I was better, and then, well the rest is history.

I do want to get off the couch more and get my head into books though. Posting this embarrassing post is a good enough reminder that I do in fact want to watch less TV and spend more time living my own life instead of watching others live made up ones. I'll keep you all posted.

On the train I prefer an e-reader - certainly a lot less bulky - but at home I prefer hard copies.

My wife and i tired that ... four kids later we figured we had had plenty of exercise and got a television ... just kidding. We have a TV screen, no aerials and highly limited time on the internet.

Last weekend the kids and i watched you tube and then went out and built a blast furnace to melt stuff. Two days before that we pulled an old rear projector tv apart and my 8 and 10 year old kids learned to set fire to stuff and carve their names using the three big magnifying glasses. They then built hobo stoves and cooked stuff.

Weekend previously we pulled the Fresnel lens out of the rear projection tv and learned to melt concrete and burn stuff really quickly.

Weekend before that we made char cloth and a fire bow.

You tube is excellent.

Hang on - I think I see a theme to our activities here: maybe a television will be safer. Especially considering I've managed to get an old propane tank, access to an arc welder and have figured out how to make an electric arc furnace that melts steel, rock and other cool stuff. ( Propane tank is to make a forge so my son can make a mine craft sword for real).

Actually - there really really is a theme here.

Who said playing outside is good for you? I'ld better get the kids inside - they are roasting marshmellows and sausages around the brazier we built from wrecking an old washing machine.

Warning - all you young fold with no kids - stick to the TV or get a truck load of fire insurance!!!

dont understand people who think some activities are better than others. why is watching a tv show considered a wasted evening but reading a book a much better activity. I hated people who said to me why are you indoors reading when you could be outside playing, again why is being outside a better thing than reading books . i just think that if you enjoy something you should do it and not worry about peoples opinions, life is to short.
