I requested glasses that took the magnetic clip on and got the shades supplied. I imagine the magnetic style ones have less gap than the swivel-down clip ons. Great for driving but no good for mowing the lawns. Wearing a baseball cap helps though.

Technofreak:You say the clip ons made the glasses uncomfortable but you don't explain how/why.

As others have already mentioned . . . they tend to make the glasses feel very front heavy and completely ruin the balance built into a nicely manufactured pair of frames.
It's not just that they feel heavy in the front - they just kind of feel off. No matter how I tried I just couldn't get used to them. A well fitting pair of glasses should fade into the background so you are almost unaware you are wearing them. I couldn't get close to that with the clipons.

. . . and they look kind of cheesy with the clipons.

Since I asked about Clip Ons, I thoght I should report back on what I'd decided to do and what the results were.

I decided to go with magnetic Clip Ons. I've had them about three weeks now so have a bit of time to get a feel for how they work for me.

This is what they look like:

If you look closely you will see small round magnets at the outside edge towards the top of each lense. These are fitted to your glasses during the manufacturing process. They hold the Clip Ons in place. The glasses need to be sent away for the Clip Ons to manufactured to suit your frames. It take about three to 4 days including courier.

I'm pretty happy with the look, you have to look pretty closely to tell the Clip On are Clip Ons.

They work well, are easy to put on and take off, plus they always fit in the same place.

Weight wise the glasses with the Clip Ons are lighter than my normal sunglasses. 32 grams V 34 grams. The Clip Ons weigh a whole 4 grams. You don't even notice they're there, except for the reduction in glare.

It certainly saves carrying around two full size pairs of glasses. The Clip Ons come in their own protective case.

I'd certainly recommend them. After I had made the decision to buy them I noticed a friend had glasses with the small magnets that hold the Clip Ons in place. I asked what he though of them. He said he was on his third pair of glasses with them, and highly recommended them.

While they may not be for everybody I think the magnetic Clip Ons are worth every penny.
