As an iOS user, I love my Garmin. I don’t want the Apple Watch “experience”. I want an accurate HR reading, I want a watch that can record a GPS track all day. I want a watch that can connect to a power meter. I want a watch where battery management isn’t a constant concern. An Apple Watch just doesn’t give me the experience I want.

Your use case obviously differs from mine. What we want from our smart watch experience differs too.

Each to their own.

I am exactly the same.

The Apple Watch isn't a watch - it's a computer on your wrist. That's fine if you're someone who tinkers with computers as a hobby, but as an athlete I found the whole Apple Watch experience to be pretty unsatisfactory. The idea that computer nerds can design products for athletes is absurd when you think about it.

What I need is a utilitarian sports watch that is designed for training and competitive events - that's what Garmin delivers.

I have both the Withings Steel HR and the Fitbit Charge 3.
I like the face of the Withings and how it looks like a regular watch, but I do find the digital screen to be a bit too small for my liking. I also wasn't a fan of the strap it came with, but that's an easy fix.

I've found I've been wearing my Fitbit more, I like how discrete it is while still giving me all the data I need (not a fan of the big Fitbit Versa / Apple watch faces). I didn't like the strap with this one either, but found replacements on Amazon.

In terms of accuracy of steps / heart rate - both are fairly spot on, but I Fitbit takes the lead for me here.

As for the Apps, I prefer Fitbit - though don't really use it that much, more at the end of the week when I check how much sleep I got.

Hope that helps

tbh if you’re an IOS user there is little point in looking outside of an AW. You’re just not going to get the same experience. Apple is too closed for any other brands to integrate well enough.

I am inclined to agree.

definitely go garmin. i got the fenix but the other ranges are good too. they're hardy and with a two week battery life!

i used to love my fitbit but needing to charge it every few days was annoying, also some models aren't waterproof so you have to keep taking it off when you shower. they do have a nice sleep tracker on it which i miss.

Yes, my wife has an Apple Watch and, whilst that ought to be my obvious choice, not only is it the ugliest watch ever made, it needs charging pretty much daily which is ridiculous.

If you are considering the Steel HR, take a look at the Vivomove 3 range or the older Vivomove HR (screen is pretty sh!t in sunlight though)

Late in the day to respond to this but the "Xiaomi Mi Band 4" is a low cost sports tracker.  Does pretty much every thing the mid to low range devices do and has a battery that lasts for 14 days. The Mi Fit app is available for the Apple ecosystem.
