Somewhat off-topic, somehwat related.  MIQ stay invoices can now be paid by credit or debit card : https://portal.miq.govt.nz/payment/

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

An update on the situation.

After escalating to the CEO of MBIE, we promptly got an response explaining that they were having this looked into. On the 28th we got a form response basically stating the application was declined. We've subsequently paid.
I have requested all emails, case notes and other records associated with the rejection.

Looking back - I think history will show that MBIE's implementation of MIQ has been rather soulless, whilst I don't want to wish ill-will on folks, I hope that the decision makers involved get to experience the pain of dealing with such a uncaring system.

cokemaster: So I’ve gotten off the phone with MIQ.

They have confirmed that this is a result of their billing system not being linked to their fee waiver system. The agent involved has raised this to their supervisor who has stated that there are no plans to link the two together, nor is there apparently anyway for MIQ contact centre staff to escalate to the fees team who have implemented this change.

Their advice has been “to call the debt collection agency and refer them back to MBIE”

Can you please send an email to the privacy commissioner and report them.

Your private and confidential information has been passed to a third party without your permission and its a pretty obvious violation of the privacy act.

Edit: To explain how serious this is, privacy is a human right in New Zealand. They should not have passed your contact information on to the third party until after your application was declined and you were contacted with enough time to pay.
