I think people are over sensitive when it comes to razer sharpness I think. Junk razers don't typically last very long, but decent ones I've never had an issue getting 10-15 shaves from, and my new ones like I said, I can get a lot of shaves out of, perhaps a months worth. I almost never cut myself (can count on 1 hand the number of times this year I have bled after shaving and usually on an area that has got a little rough..

I cannot seem to find a cheaper all stainless one. If I am going to be using it for along time I want a good one that isnt going to turn to rubbish after years of being in contact with water/soap/air but $350.00 is ridiculous for something which cost about $25.00 to produce.

Thanks, I will try that after my last schick blade. I use about one blade a month at the moment, but the thing is I do not 'enjoy' shaving. The first few shaves are good after that I am stretching it out.

Also, I store my razors in the hot water cupboard.

Razor blades are blimmin expensive annoying things to buy and as much as you try and stretch them out they only really last up to 3-4 shaves. Which sucks if you shave every 1 or 2 days.
I must have sensitive skin or something under my chin because it is not uncommon to find bleeding cuts under my chin after shaving no matter how much care i take. Shaving after hot shower with warm water, shaving foam 'for sensitive skin', with the grain then against doesn't seem to make a difference still get cuts.
I have tried single blade disposables (crap), mach3 (non turbocharged) and Schick quattro titanium.
I have been thinking about single bladed safety razors. I do not know anything about them, how does the blade cost compare? where is a good place to buy them from (blades and / or razor)?
I have heard some people shave with oil maybe i should try that. Shave cream for sensitive skin seemed to make no difference at all and i feel like I am just buying hyped up over-marketed products. The packaging which tries looks like some high tech piece of equipment produced by nasa is an indicator.
Looking for tips, tricks and experiences.

my current gillete blue triple blade disposable has been used continuously for 3 months ... haven't bothered to open the next one ...

trick: easiest to shave after a shower coz the hair is moist and soft, straightaway apply soft soap and start shaving before it dries up and hardens up (the hairs)

Do you make a point of really stretching your skin taut when shaving? I find that helps a hell of a lot in avoiding cuts. Also really wet your face before putting the foam on, and wet your hands before putting foam in them and rubbing it on your face. The more moisture you can get in there the less likely the blades will grab and cut your skin. Usually I wet my face thoroughly, twice, so it's like dripping wet, then wet my hands, put in the foam, rub it in, wipe it away from just below where I need to shave so I can get a grip, pull the skin taut and shave upwards (against grain) .. .works for me

Yah skin taunt is really important. The fingers of my left hand follow the blade up behind it so I can feel if I missed any as well.

TheUngeek: Interesting some like those king of shave razors. I found them about equal to cheap disposables

I initially found them not as good. I then learnt that if you push them on to your face - so they flex to fit (as designed to do) - then they do a great job. If you're used to shaving with Gillette or schick, its a bit of a different action.

everybodys face, beard and skin is different though, so its best to try different blades with different oils/gels/foams and find the best combo. I tried oil and it just didn't do it for me. foam was ok, gel was ok, but foaming gel - and particularly the nivea sensitive - was the best for me

I use a Goodfella Safety Razor - its fantastic - blades are cheap as - also use shaving soap and a badger hair brush - not too badly priced either.

I shave in the shower. I have a small mirror on suction cups in the shower for the purpose and it has served me well. I use King of Shaves oil and a Schick Quattro.

I have quite sensitive skin so now very rarely shave properly (I tend to keep a beard or stubble neatly trimmed rather than doing a full shave). I used an electric option about 10 years ago and found it would irritate my skin more than a razor, they work by pulling the hair up and then trimming it so it relaxes back to be flush with the skin and smooth, so gave up on that one. I never press the razor into my face, I conciously slide it over the skin.

I'm still learning but this has been the best for me and I would imagine i'll still be learning when I die.

One suggestion I don't think has been covered - shave EVERY day.

I find that if I leave it a few days that I have cut & sensitivity issues when I start back. However, if I make sure I shave daily, my skin quickly toughens up and I don't have those problems.

Lookingup: I would have to say that I completely disagree with this. If I don't shave in the weekend (I never do) and Monday I get a closer shave and my face feels better than any other day of the week.

I find the same thing - after a couple of days (even missing just one day) a shave becomes a lot tougher. Feels more like the razor is ripping the hairs outta my face, not cutting them! After another shave the following day my face has usually recovered.
