Sipreme: If you pop me an email I can send you one :) I'll put one aside especially. info@sipreme.co.nz

Thanks for the feedback :)

We will definitely look at bars next. We have been in contact with vending machine suppliers as well and are thinking of single serve packs for those.

Cheers!

Do you answer the questions entered from you website, or is it quicker to ask here?
I requested a sample through your website but haven't got a reply.

Cheers!

raytaylor: Yeah... I am too lazy to eat healthier.
I go to the gym 5 nights a week, but after rowing 500 calories each night for 6 weeks, I am putting on weight. I know a little bit of weight gain is normal, but I was surprised as I thought it would only be one or two kgs that would eventually start falling off.
When I started at the gym 3 years ago, I weighed 10kgs less than i do now, but I keep taking 6 month breaks and never get back down to it.

So this morning I went to the supermarket and purchased $300 worth of those 4 point weight watcher meals. Will see how they go until I get a DIY soylent recipie sorted out.

Thanks - I didnt know that official DIY site existed

You do also realise that Muscle weighs more than fat so you maybe gaining weight but loosing fat ask at you gym if they can check you body fat if the amount has gone down you can guarantee muscle density has increased accounting for the increase in weight

raytaylor: Anyone else here ordered any soylent?
Its taking too long - and I need to loose some body fat, but I am lazy and Mcdonalds is the only place open when i get back into town each night.

Looking at the online recipies, they seem to all quote american products.
has anyone with more knowledge than me been able to create a DIY recipe with products you can get at the supermarket or hippie food shop?

I will go into the super market if it means I can buy bulk of what I need to make the stuff in a blender.

I couldn't do the soylent thing.

I've been seriously considering getting back into baking megamuffins and putting them in the deep freeze.  The theory is that I can eat several of these a day for 150 calories a piece and then more leniently select whatever else to make up the remaining vitamins and minerals.  Sure the amino acid profile of things like soylent won't be as targeted, but last I heard that was even more arbitrary than the RDAs.

Megamuffins are 150 calories each, and provide at least 20% RDA of all the usual nutrients, plus omega 3 fats, low glycemic index, high protein & fiber, and a Zone-like macronutrient profile.

All the ingredients should be pretty easy to get here.  In fact, I have pretty much 90% of them or can readily buy the ones I don't at the supermarket.

After living off just soylent for about 3 months, I found it was wrecking havoc with my health. I am borderline diabetic - trying to improve my diet to reverse the onset, but i found that after having a soylent meal, i would be sleepy and tired due to the high calorie hit. So i am thinking about just reducing it. My pantry is now full of soylent as i kept my subscription going.

I can't quote any posts on this page any more because the text I quoted pushes the width with the buttons for doing so out under the edge of the fixed width.

But good luck with the changing diet, if you have the willpower.  Here's a paper I read the other day.

Yeah, can't see the quote button either.

Ray - have you tried the 5:2 diet at all? If not, could be worth a go. The guy behind it, Michael Mosley, "developed" it when he was trying to deal with the same issue (he was pre-diabetic as well), and apparently it was really successful for dealing with this.

Given the 5:2 diet just involves eating sensibly and restricting calories on a couple of days a week I doubt it'll have the same problems you've faced with this soylent stuff. While it's not the one-pot solution you may be after, it's not an onerous diet for most and hopefully encourages a healthy attitude towards food (which is something I think soylent screws with).

I've cleaned up one of the posts. Text formatting should be sorted.

Nothing against the 5-2 diet, but for what it's worth, this paper I read last week (as I understand it) has among other things a comparison of existing research for both intermittent fasting and continuous dieting, and finds that there are no significant benefits of one of the other with respect to diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Interesting reference, thanks.

Final sentence of the abstract: "Intermittent fasting thus represents a valid - albeit apparently not superior - option to continuous energy restriction for weight loss."

So I guess what it does allow, given they show similar results, is for the person to select a diet that is more in keeping with their lifestyle, preferences etc. I think finding a diet that works for you is possibly more critical than the actual method of diet (within reason).

Personally, I like food too much to opt for what they term "continuous energy restriction" - every attempt I've made to lose weight and get healthy this way has never lasted. I always have ended up putting the weight back on. Intermittent fasting requires me to reduce my consumption for two days (or one day) a week, and during the rest of the time eat a normal balanced diet, and it means I don't worry too much if I have chips or something else equally unhealthy once in a while. I've now been doing it for well over two years and it's still working for me, and I can't see this changing any time soon.

Maybe look into a low carb solution. Soylent has a lot of sugars for someone pre-diabetic.

If you're interested in making your own soylent there are a lot of options at Diy.soylent.Me

The Sipreme folks wanted to to some testing/demo around offices in Aucklad - they contacted a few companies, including Intergen (which I work for in the marketing dept) and we arranged for their team to visit the Auckland offices.

Here's a video:
