Supermarkets etc are not charities. If they are not making money from a product they won't stock it.

And there has been absolutely no evidence so far that this is even a decision made by the Foodstuffs. For all we know it could simply be the supplier pulling the product (which happens very regularly).

There are plenty of Macleans products in the New World stores I shop at. Looking at their online shopping Thorndon New World stock 11 different variants of Macleans toothpaste.

At the end of the day Colgate is the #1 toothpaste in the FMCG market by quite some distance.

Apparently I was talking about something different without realising it. I'd forgotten about the other flavour; I'd also been getting the mint one. But a while ago they slightly changed the packaging and they also changed the product because it left a nasty aftertaste that wasn't there before. I managed to find a couple of tubes of the "previous version" but have almost run out.

Wow! Amazing to see people being so passionate about toothpaste, and being so brassed off when their favourite brand is removed from shelves!

@kiwigeek1 - contact the distributor/manufacturer and ask them to continue selling it just for your benefit. But don't be surprised if they say yes at a charge of several thousand dollars per tube to you...

Assuming it is still being manufactured... Open your own shop. Stock the stuff. Problem solved.

Until then you will have to choose from the products businesses owned and operated by other people choose to stock. Or pay the shipping costs and import your own.

Shops aren't obliged to stock tooth paste at all. They do stock some to make a profit.

just replacing old ones and places of wear.. never had tartar build up

epsc if you clean teeth 5 times a day.. I clean when fury

and even the mint one runs out some months. people that used to get original being forced

to change clearly.

and it dont kill you or affect your hormones

Pretty sure that would be pretty bad for the enamel (if you have any left) on your teeth.

I use whatever toothpaste is on special, on an OralB electric toothbrush at most twice a day. Smooth as.

Most of the replies I have read on this thread seem well thought out and reasonable... maybe some people being flippant are simply responding to your passionate (read slightly aggressive) posting style, but then most are apparently zombies so that is to be expected. I am extremely surprised @sbiddle remained as calm and reasonable as he did. Well done than man. - Oops sorry I am off topic... I should read the FUG more often ;)

To get back to the toothpaste, I hope Aim doesn't disappear completely. I have tried others over the years. I prefer it for a reason. While it is true that shops have no obligation to please their customers, it is also true that customers have no obligation to spend their money with a business that treats them with arrogant dismissiveness. Some shops, mostly overseas, have learned this lesson and stock things they don't make money on for the sake of customer goodwill. Now that American businesses like Amazon are discovering New Zealand, maybe they will come in, do the same thing, and take over while New Zealand shopkeepers are left wondering what happened to their captive cash cows. If you want people to spend their money with you, it helps to try to accommodate them a little.

If the only toothpaste remaining to me is Colgate, I will return to baking soda. It works better than rats' brains.
