Zista $10-$13 100pk off trade chemist warehouse. I take 8-10 per day every day for 6-8wka straight regardless of whether I feel H.F coming on or not. Not perfect but does the trick for the most part.

Holly crap.. As pointed out that is a very serious overdose and will offer zero benefit - if anything it will simply make things worse.

You can also consider an indoor air filter, people seem to swear by them but I've never tried one.

Dust mites are one of the most common allergy issues - and I'm sure in the future we'll link the fact we have one of the highest rates of asthma in the world to the fact we have a massive dust mite problem. My asthma issues pretty much disappeared completely after my 3 years of immunotherapy.

Getting rid of dust mites in NZ is incredibly difficult unless you can maintain the humidity inside your home to a level under 45%

Carpet is a big contributor to allergies. The tight fibres are a haven for allergens. Get rid of carpet and a lot of breathing issues go away.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Getting rid of carpet and investing in pillow and mattress protectors is about as far as you can realistically go in NZ.

Part of my path that lead me to immunotherapy was the fact I'd feel so much better when I was in the US since I'd have 2-3 trips per year there. In dry parts of the country and parts of the West Coast in particular dust mites simply don't exist.

@sbiddle immunotherapy is not a starter for me as my issues have been caused by my immune deficiency as a result of biologic treatment.

We removed all our carpet and replaced it with timber flooring. We also have a couple of Dyson are purifyers that control humidity to a degree. We keep the windows closed where we can and open them at night.

We vacuum clean the bed when the sheets are changed at least 3 times per week.

I use nasal flush and eucalyptus infusers although we limit those as they can raise the humidity.

Wearing an allergy mask in the high pollen season helps as does having a quick shower after being outside.

Used to have terrible streaming nose and continuous sneezing when I was a kid in the South Island ~50 years ago - was pretty bad.

Got prescribed polaramine tabs and they mostly worked - but made me so sleepy and irritable - Still remember it well.

In my teen years the sneezes and running nose seems to get replaced with terrible sinus headaches and stuffed up nose - sometimes triggering migraines.

Situation is pretty much the same these days - Starts around November and goes on until February.

Fortunately ibuprofen appeared on the market at some stage, which can mostly kill that sort of sinus pain/headache and now there are quite a few different medications and nasal sprays.

Used to use Flixonase - but found it seemed to get less effective - and its expensive ($20~).

One day I saw Becloclear at Chemist Warehouse for about $7 so gave it a try. Worked well for a couple of years.

This year I bought some Steroclear ($6 at Chemistwarehouse) - seems to be working ok.

Quite interested to see that others have noticed that products they used seem to become less effective - thought it was just me.

EDIT: Tried a sinus rinse kit a few times over the years - After a cold left me badly blocked up. Be very careful with these if you have generally blocked nasal passages. They can force infection into parts of your sinuses and make it much worse. You also need to make sure you use only sterilised water so as to not force foreign bacteria into your sinus cavities.

just remembered - used to have terrible hay fever for years end on, until my son went for immunotherapy. they find out what he's allergic to and then get the stuff he's allergic to and put in his mouth.

then i thought to myself ... i can do that. bought local honey and drank lots

last year no hayfever.

this year been doing the same, will let you know.
