Normally I am not bothered by this sort of thing.

However, the perpetual concentration of the media on announcing every new case and death worldwide as if it is a football score or a competition did give rise to a moment this morning where I felt like someone surrounded by the approaching zombie horde who had run out of ammunition.

I can see exactly how this perpetual focus on the negative would cause anyone who is susceptible to, shall we say destructive tendencies, to do something drastic.

Do we really need to know daily how many people are dying? What does it actually achieve?

You're focusing on the wrong thing. You need to look at the number that are pulling through and the (slow) flattening of the infection-rate curves even in badly-hit countries (except the US and UK). We need these things to show progress and provide hope. Without it, you know that really bad things are happening out there but you can't tell what or whether it's getting better. Every curve that tilts to the right is a sign of hope.

Unfortunately people like him in denial are like the anti vaxxers. No amount of information will change their mind. A bit like "Doubting Thomas" they won't take note until they see it with their own eyes. I think there's a case for locking some people up for the duration for their safety and that of the community. This is no different to war.

I agree, but it’s the daily briefings that are focusing on the wrong thing, aided by the msm.

Had anyone noticed the graphs of the past two days have a different base line to the start of the graph. Up until Thursday we were on the same trajectory as Italy using the metric of the number of days since the first case was detected. Now the graphs are using a different base line that makes us look slightly better but with no data to compare with the likes of Australia anymore, which by the way was doing much better than us, at least up until a couple of days ago.

However, just by airing my worries here, doing the problem shared is a problem halved thing, has helped enormously.

I am trying to push through a bad increase in pain levels and a wet day to try and keep moving as best I can. I have worked out a path around the inside of the house and do laps with my headset on for music. My neighbours must think I have gone nuts, or more nuts.

This sounds like a reasonable sized town. If at some point you are comfortable naming it I think people here will come up with some other options. In the worst possible case I think you will find that service organizations like Red Cross are active and ready to assist.
