My flatmate back in the days in the UK, once stood on a chair to fix a lamp.
When he'd finished, he decided to jump off the chair.
He landed straight on one of these UK plugs.
This day today, the foot is still sore at times, he tells me...

I can tell he's never had kids ... [those with kids will know ...]
danepak: I actually have kids and I'm not sure exactly what you mean :-)
I dont have kids, but I would assume "lego".
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!

Yes!
I have a partially separated disc in my lower back which makes bending over for any length of time excruciatingly painful even vacuuming my floor is painful after 10 mins
ajobbins: Just over a year ago I broke the subcapital neck of my right femur in a motorbike accident (3D CT render here if you're interested). I took myself to hospital in an Uber (An ambulance seemed dramatic) and sat in ER for 2 hours before then Xray'd me. No pain relief (It hurt, but wasn't enough to make me demand relief). The triage nurse came and apologised to me shortly after (with some pain relief) after they realised how injured I was (At this point they were trying to wake up the on call orth surgeon for my emergency surgery).
The whole pain thing is funny, as it's so subjective and everyone seems to feel things differently. They were quite surprised how little pain relief I was asking for given the injury. When I was in the hospital I was awake one morning about 6am (due to being in pain). The nurse came by and asked me how much pain I was in (Enough to wake me up and keep me awake, but not dire - so maybe 6/10) and gave me some pain relief. The guy next to me in the room (ugh, shared hospital rooms) was snoring away loudly, but was due for some pain relief also so the nurse woke him up and asked him how much pain he was in and if he wanted pain killers. "10/10! 10/10!" he cries. I'm thinking, wait a minute, I'm here awake because I'm at a 6, but this guy thinks he's at 10 and he was just snoring away, sound asleep. Must be really hard for the medical staff to balance genuine pain management, and those who just want all the good stuff for as long as they can get away with it.
Unfortunately now, helped by the nice piece of titanium in my right leg no doubt, I have fairly annoying (but manageable) ongoing pain, but sounds like nothing compared to what some of you lot have been through!
So agree re shared rooms. No hope of getting any rest whatsoever and unlike EU and US hospitals, no private rooms.

I can't say that I've tried this, but imagine how painful (and dumb) the following would be:
Stick a toothpick under your big toenail and kick a wall as hard as you can...
