The app is easy to use, but people just don't use it. I continue to use it.

Most people travelling on public transport now have access to a mask, but aren't wearing them, as no longer compulsory, even though the official recommendation is that they should. I continue to wear one. On my Kapiti commute this morning, there were 3 mask wearers in a double carriage of, I'm guessing, about 200+ people.

If (when) Covid returns to NZ, there will be a lot of people pointing fingers, no doubt blaming officials, while refusing to acknowledge their own complacency.

"Google and Apple's Contact-Tracing API Doesn't Work on Public Transport, Study Finds" (the original study is called "Measurement-based evaluation of Google/Apple Exposure Notification API for proximity detection in a light-rail tram")

The researchers of the study first tested the API on a group of volunteers who switched seats every fifteen minutes in a Dublin tram. They then ran the collected data through the detection rules of the Swiss, German, and Italian contact-tracing apps to see how often they correctly identified contact between users. Based on this, they found that the chance of an accurate detection was "similar to that of triggering notifications by randomly selecting from the participants in our experiments, regardless of proximity."

So, no better than random. This finding is the latest example of mounting skepticism among experts regarding the effectiveness of the technology underlying the apps which have been widely released -- but less widely used -- by governments across Europe and more recently the United States. Most contact-tracing apps in Europe and the United States use Apple and Google's exposure notification API, which in turn relies on in-built wireless Bluetooth technology to estimate the distance between two users and whether they've been in contact. What actually constitutes 'contact' is set by the developers of whichever app calls the API, but it's usually defined as being within 2 meters (~6.5 feet) of another user for at least 15 minutes. Once a user uploads a positive test result to a contact-tracing app, it notifies all contacted users and lets them know that they've been at risk of infection.

We've updated the QR code scanner to be more reliable, so you should now be able to scan posters faster.

We also found and fixed an issue with the way diary entries were being recorded on some devices.

We've updated the QR code scanner to be more reliable, so you should now be able to scan posters faster.

We also found and fixed an issue with the way diary entries were being recorded on some devices.

I haven't noticed any difference with the new version, but then it's always scanned pretty fast so long as there's no glare over the QR code.

At Riccarton Clinic (Doctor) this morning, I was the only one out of at least ten who bothered to scan in.

I have NEVER seen anyone else scan in at the pharmacy next door either!

(Been like that since the beginning!)

I still see a reasonable amount of people scanning in to places like the supermarket. But I'm in Auckland so maybe we're taking it a bit more seriously than the rest of NZ.

Does anyone else have the experience that after the last update (android) to v1.5.1 that the QR code scanning speed has drastically reduced? Previously I was able to scan codes while walking upto or past them - cannot do that any longer since the update (on the same codes/locations/positioning of codes).

It is definitely at least a second slower every time. But I also updated to Android 10 at about the same time so I wasn't sure if that was the cause.

I'm on 10 too. And had a fun time with my first since update

But as it was the usual warehouse with slight warp I had put it down to that

I wonder if it's been modified to more of an iPhone type read. Recognise the marker dots take a photo or a number of frames and process. Then switch to real-time if it can't.

Might work for more on the cheaper phones but those with good cameras now impacted?

I was in Auckland city yesterday and I was the only one who check in at every place I went to. Found the codes scanning was hit and miss with speed done were quick and others you had to stand there and we wait was using a p40

I have screenshotted the app not scanning a code, and my other phones inbuilt QR reader could scan it from showing the screenshot so its not the focus or anything, its their crap QR scanning librarys that theyre using. Of course another scanner is no help since its not a link that can be opened or anything.

I did just zap at Maccas with the normal near lightning fast read.

So perhaps it's some sort of data caching to analyse.

My very first attempt was almost a complete fail. I loaded history (which took a bit) and then force-closed it before I went back and flattened out the poster and it did read.

But today, bam

Need to check the Countdown A3, I can get them from a good 2m away normally
