Having a chest drain removed following lung removal... I apparently have a relatively high pain threshold and had been pretty sweet with pain following the op and had barely touched the morphine so the bright spark nurse suggested I'd probably be ok without any additional pain relief despite other nurses telling me differently. I took his word. I'm not a violent man but it was the closest I've ever come to throwing a punch.

And the pain is made worse by the fact you can't breathe until they've stitched you up. Seriously not cool - the longest, most painful 20 odd seconds of my life, it seemed an eternity!

So - if you ever have cause to need a chest drain, ALWAYS take all the pain relief before they remove it, no matter how you've been and who says what. You have been warned lol
