MurrayM:Sounds like the MoH supplied pulse oximeters may not be so great.
Or they took the reading wrong, see e.g. this post. My neighbours got one and on one of them it took quite a bit of fiddling to get a valid reading. Thus my earlier comment about getting a known-good reading before you get ill to provide a baseline and get you used to how it works.
