Does anyone know where these can be found in NZ (i.e. to deter/frustrate the theft of items in the boot of the car)?

I can find places on line offering them in many countries but not here. However, I have seen One News cars with them fitted so they must be available somewhere.

Milford cargo barriers might have something, or else they'd be custom made at huge $$$

Im googling but they just look like regular station wagons to me. Not sure what the difference is. But a friend got a dog barrier for theirs from a towbar company. Is that the sort of thing you are looking for?

I'm guessing it's for all windows. Like a police dog cage even.

No, just a normal one.

I carry tens of thousands of dollars of camera gear and, although it is insured, the excess for theft from a vehicle is high. Just looking to see if I could find some extra security (this is the reason One News use it too).

There is also a film I have seen demonstrated that makes it nigh on impossible to get through the window even if you break it but I haven't tracked that down yet either.

Try Best Bars. I know they have Cargo Barriers, and pretty sure they had options for full cages (the three rear windows and the usual cargo barrier between the rear compartment and back seat). Also check with your local car dealer/agent as they may be available from the service department.

What's the make/model of your vehicle? (not trying to make it an easier target, and I didn't ask for your reg plate!) ;-)

There is also aftermarket tint film available with security properties, as a last resort, or extra layer of protection, for the three rear windows.

ETA: Actually just had another read of your post above, and see you were talking about the security tint film anyway. Hey, it was early! ;-) Have a look here http://www.tintacar.co.nz/tint/unbreakable

Is it worth considering a strongbox in the boot which is bolted to the floor of the vehicle? That might be cheaper than a cage?

The nuts could be tightened inside the box ie. The head of the bolt is on the outside.

The difference is the origin of the speaker. I like the term shooting-brake.... :)

Eg, nobody in the northern hemisphere knows what a Ute is.

You could try contacting one news/TVNZ and asking them.

Cargo barriers are common, just go ask any taxi company where they get theirs from.  A quick google:

http://www.fullyequipped.co.nz/Products/Cargo-Barriers
http://www.haleman.co.nz/cargobarriersandbulkheads/

More than likely also an OEM accessory available from the dealer also.

My late Pater always called them 'shooting brakes'.

Correct - anywhere but here or Australia it would be a pickup truck.
