If you have all these things - GPS, Dash Camera, Radar Detector and so on - you will soon end up with no windscreen to look through as it is covered in devices and a mass of curly cords - and not enough sockets to power them all.

First company that produces merged devices is on to a winner I reckon.

Some dash cams have GPS to tag the footage, but none seem to actually navigate too. Are there any that do?

Use your phone? It has a GPS and camera and car navigation software. With an appropriate mount and software it could be a dashcam.

Not that I am aware of.

Also highly unlikely - the market for them would be tiny for the cost of building/licensing a decent mapping/navigation solution.

Stand alone GPSes are a dying breed anyway.

In a couple of years they will be integrated into most new cars I reckon. Rain detectors, GPS etc already pretty common, so just needs to all tie together. Many new cars also have touch screens, hard drives and USB ports for playback and export.

I hadn't actually realised that the dashcam ones "with gps" were not in fact GPS navigation devices as well. Good job I hadn't purchased one yet. If you do find one let me know, I'm in the market for such a device currently as well.

The NuviCam does not seem easily available in NZ. I have a Nuvi about 5 or 6 years old now and have found it pretty good. Don't know about Navman - anyone comment on them?

If only it did realtime traffic I'd buy that on the spot.

It looks like the Nuvi is recently released and thus not really available yet, and apparently only offers realtime traffic in the UK and US.

First place to release a model in NZ with GPS + Dashcam + real time traffic gets my monies.

there's a gps unit that I saw at jb hifi the other day that had a dash camera + gps in it, can't remember the model. saw it at the Wairau park store.

I use Sygic on my Android - works well and the head up display is great at night (just place the phone on the dashboard). This mapping software is also good for when in the back blocks where there is no mobile signal too.
The camera function is solid but make sure you have a good power supply.
