I returned a rental car the other day and left a valuable piece of tech inside (without a shadow of a doubt)

Rang within the hour (after my flight) to be told to ring back on Monday.

Rang back Monday nothing found, searched vehicle several times, complained to managers, re-searched vehicle etc etc.

Keys handed to airport representative, vehicle left locked in their car park and under their control. Seems like they will under no circumstances accept any liability or entertain the idea that their staff have stolen the item (and this is the only way it could go missing from a locked vehicle under their control)

Airport police were great but did say they hadn't had any other reports similar to this.

Is this simply a freak one off opportunistic type theft?

Perk of the job for some people.

Yep, lost a pair of expensive sunglasses in the UK this way.

You would think when you ring back about the loss the items would suddenly be found.

Still travel insurance paid for them

disappointed! - i wouldn't mind so much if their upper level management hadn't been so adamant that there was no way their staff would be involved. it made me feel like an idiot.

they even went so far to say that even single socks get handed in so your device definitely would have been - yeah right.

are we allowed to name and shame? i know i certainly wont rent with these guys again and by naming maybe we can identify repeat offenders and help others make an informed decision in the future?

I use Budget and they've been excellent. I had 17 rental cars last year, I've left something in them twice, a pair of sunglasses and a bluetooth car kit attached the visor. (It seems like cars can't cope with two bluetooth connections).

Both couriered back to me. However oddly the Bluetooth kit never worked again after it came back.

To be fair I've not left anything really valuable though.
