As mentioned on another thread, yesterday we picked up new Suzuki Vitara Ltd.

Pretty pleased with it so far.

I wonder if anyone has played around with updating the Maps.

Comes with an SD card with 2014 Here Maps by the looks.

Im pretty Sure these were origfinally by Nokia and they were bought out recently.

I know on my Handheld Garmin Oregon 600 and Zumo 650 I can update their maps using the NZ Open source Maps

Anyone played around with trying to update rather than Purchasing new SD cards ??

Ive yet to look at what updates there are and or trying to update through official channels.

Ill will also check that avenue as well

I would say however that they are pretty good and practical but obviously need updating already.

I saw your photo on Facebook, and you got it with 14 km. Being brand new I'd guess a map would be fresher than a 2014 version?

Also why I think built-in maps are dumb. Either should be mobile (heck a Volvo I had a couple of years ago used Google Maps and 3G) or not have this at all. I don't see dealers updating these in a few years time. I'm a pessimist.

My Mazda has 'connected services' which supposedly allows features such as traffic reports via the Internet, however trying to get it to maintain a reliable connection via a phone or portable router is hopeless so I have given up on it. Offline maps are a far more reliable option, and work fine as long as you regularly update them.

A family friend works for a BMW dealer and apparently their latest vehicles have all the necessary radio equipment on board to connect directly to the Internet. Hopefully other manufacturers will pick up this idea.

I also have one of the new Vitara's, you can update the maps at https://suzuki.garmin.com/suzuki/. I haven't tried it yet...

My Vitara has Here Maps on an SD card. The Grand Vitara had these maps. (Garmin) Might have to ask the agent for help

The site is terrible not supporting Plug ins on various browsers as well

So took my Vitara in for a 15k service yesterday. When I booked I asked them if they could update the SatNav or tell me how to do it.

When I picked it up they said I need to go to http://navigation.com/ to get the "update"

The site is just for map updates and (surprise) the map updates are $159 - you can see map updates here http://mapchanges.navigation.com/index.php?app=apac

BTW not sure if its my mobile connection this morning or whether the site was updated overnight but the link I visited last night are no longer valid. Looks like they have released 2017 maps and Suzuki isnt showing on the list now.

Anyway, what I was really after was an update to the media system itself. Even though our Vitara is a June 2016 model the media system is version 7.2 (or 7 dot something). The latest version available seems to be 8.5. Pretty poor that Suzuki don't even bother keeping it up to date or offer an update service. Bit of a rant but for a $35K car you would expect the media system to be at least up to date when you buy it.

After scouring the internet and foreign sites I've managed to track down the 8.5 update - one of the European dealers posted it. I'll probably give it a crack - however it seems that with the update the ability to play videos from the SD card has been removed.

Has anyone else had any luck getting the media system updated through a dealer?

Wade, yeah thats part of the issue. My wife has an iPhone and the Suzuki Apple Car Play is fantastic. Works flawlessly most of the time. Car Play supports Apple Maps so really there is no need to update the built in Here maps (at least not for $159).

Unfortunately for Android users (like me) the Suzuki's only have Mirrorlink which is a steaming pile. Limited phone support and flakey as heck. Apparently some of the issues have been ironed out in later releases of the media system software which is why I wanted to track down the update.

This press release states that all Vitaras from Jan 2016 will have Android Auto but that clearly isnt the case http://www.suzuki.com.au/suzuki-life/news/suzuki-confirms-all-new-vitara-turbo-hit-australian-shores-2016

The Vitara does have Apple CarPlay by default. And it's annoying that it mirrors the display of the phone and that both devices can't be treated as separate.

Suzukis do support MirrorLink, but not all Android phone do. So Samsung owners might be happy, but Google Nexus owners are not.
