Hi,

I just bought a 2009 Toyota Wish, I am it first NZ owner.
It came with the classical Multi Av System all in Japanese. I am struggling to play personal music on it, maybe owners of Toyota cars of this age can help me.

My questions are:
- there is an SD card slot, I tried to put a 16GB formatted as exFAT with few folders on mp3 on it, but the car didn't recognize it, the SD source still appear grey on the interface
- there is an HDD source on the display (but in grey), so I guess I should be able to plug a hard drive. There is a little trap-door behind the tilting panel where it is written "HDD" but I can't recognize the socket it is hiding. What is the procedure to plug an hdd of music?

If its anything like my 2008 Toyota than the HDD is built in and when you play CD's there is an option to Record them to the HDD. Never really attempted to plug in anything to the USB-B port but i presume one could use this for transfer?

Try a 2 gig card formatted fat32. That is a really really old system and I recall back when a friend first got one with it, wasnt even SDHC capable, no way something that old will be SDXC to support exfat.

On some of those Toyota Head Units, the SD card is used to store the firmware. You can't play music files from a SD card, but you can play jpeg's if it has a screen.

Is this a toyota branded one or a carrozzeria?
If its a carrozzeria get rid of it :), The older ones you can't change to english and dont support much in terms of file formats as above.

I'd suggest you go get a cheap Ali Express replacement, There are a few guys here who can suggest a good one for under 250USD with GPS etc.
