Used to be but is not now AFAIK. The way things are setup now they make more money from a HP purchase then a cash purchase as the finance company gives them a slice for getting a new customer.

IMHO I have found trademe to be hugekly overpriced for cars as most know the price they want but not what its worth. I have found Turners pretty good especially when companies turn over thier cars and want to exit them quick. Pay the $120 for AA inspection and its all sweet

I have a Mazda 6 2006 and the mileage was high-ish but that matters little as long as it has a history of good maintenance.

I have also found that if cars are well looked after cosmetically inside and out then its usually mechanically looked after as well.

Not sure on your model but there was an issue with transmissions over heating due to blocked fluting in transmission case. Basically after driving for a while you get noises, mine was replaced under warranty but Mazda have history in transmissions so best advise is change oil every 20k and that will ensure longevity.

This is true but you work them down enough letting them think it's gonna be hp then offer them the cash/cheque.

Also helps near the end of the month when bonuses etc come into play. Then the cash would be looking pretty good.

I had a look at Turners but they all seem to be autos and lower cc rating. I would like something with a little grunt.

The white one i want says it's in immaculate condition so im seeing that as a good sign that it's probably well looked after mechanically.

Thats my problem, i've searched everything on trademe and the Atenza is the only one that tickles my fancy.
The worst thing i could do is settle and not be 100% happy.

It also has to be a manual. Auto's and tiptronics in my opinion aren't real cars.

as far as i can remember, last manual i drove was about 8 years ago... i am not a car expect, but i have driven aurion sportivo in the past (rental). i personally prefer it over commodore sv6 or ford g6 (both rental).

that aurion is definitely a bargain. still has factory warranty (15 month).

3.5l tiptronic vs 2.4l manual. my pick would be the first one.

Im not really looking for something speedy just quick enough and something that looks nice.
The Honda Accords aren't too bad looking but are in the same price range as the Atenza so i may as well go for the Atenza.

America got the V6 3.0l Mazda Atenza.

I always thought field day specials were utes or work trucks or fords and holdens.

this is not always the case. the way i see it, after 5 years it is expensive to maintain the cars. they wont bother to service or look after it. rust is a well known issue with jap import cars. parts can be difficult especially if the car is designed for local use (ie: japan-specific model)

this is not always the case. the way i see it, after 5 years it is expensive to maintain the cars. they wont bother to service or look after it. rust is a well known issue with jap import cars. parts can be difficult especially if the car is designed for local use (ie: japan-specific model)

The other thing with Jap Imports (and I've got two, and love them) is that they are most often tuned for higher octane fuel (Japan has 100 Octane) - so to run them efficiently here, you need to use expensive petrol (I run mine on 98 - Nissan Skyline 2.5L V6 - 2003).

The Atenza is a great looking car though, if you get one that's done over or near 100k, check that the cambelt has been done, or get it done straight away.

Most of the ones i have come across are chain driven so no need for that.

They are sexy cars though.

I agree about the k's but i've had my Subaru for 8-9 years and have only done about 1000k a year. Some of that was hospital appointments from where i am to Nelson.
So i don't do much k's.

Im thinking i will have this car a while as im not a buy a car every 5 mins person.
