Thanks for all the feedback. I had heard CVT transmission in general could have issues so was planning to avoid it. I end up in a lot of stop - start commuting traffic so will be going for an automatic. I like to keep a car for up to 10 years so really don't want much older than 2009, which will be a 10 year leap on my current car. I have noticed that the Honda Dealerships are $2-3K more for their second hand cars compared to Trademe dealers. They would have to offer a significant discount to be competitive. I thought that maybe they had a better warranty scheme but they only offer the legal minimum 3 months unless the car is new enough to still be under the original warranty. My current car is a used Japanese import (although Honda NZ were the importers according to the papers) so I will also be looking at the Fit. These do seem to be slightly cheaper, but I'm not sure if there is a downside to it being ex Japan - maybe more time idling in traffic, or not so pedantic about servicing? I am happy with a 1300cc for round town so a Civic is larger than I need (especially if I want something 2009+). I drove both the 1300 and 1500 Jazz over the same urban circuit and barely noticed a very slight difference in power, and very similar performance to my 14 year old Civic, which I put down to it being heavier than a Jazz and older engine technology.
