itxtme: Have an SX4 and the key starts the vehicle if the remote goes flat, had the car 4 years and never had the need to use the physical key.

Also have an SX4. I've had to use the key once when I parked beside a factory sub station and the interference stopped the rf remote working.

My Toyota Ractis is keyless with push button start and I would say the Estima would be the same as most keyless push button starts like mine.
If the battery in the keyfob goes flat you can remove the physical key to enter the vehicle. Then to start the vehicle you hold the black key fob against the push start button for 30 seconds. Then push the start button and engine will start.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

Hi did u use any third party key and if u did were there any issues? Coz this is what they are offering me a copy fob without a second physical key

For piece of mind I just replace the batteries in my keys every two years. They're just CR2032 button cells, so they're not expensive.

with mine I used genuine keys. Mine came with the original 2 key fobs and keys

On my cx5 you use the backup key to open the door and the wave the fob over the start button (like an access card or similar) and then you can start it. No battery required.

My Outlander has keyless entry but it's got a backup key as part of the fob. The keyless entry is great IMO, especially carting kids around. I also like being able to push the little button on the door handle to lock it.

My Nissan Juke has keyless entry fob. Just press the button on the door and the car will unlock/lock the car (as long as you have the fob with you). And you cannot lock the car when you leave the fob in the car.

If it goes flat you can take out the hidden key in the fob and use that to get in the car. Then you can too put the fob against the start button and the car will start. I think this is pretty standard with a lot of cars.

But.. it does come with 2 fobs just in case something happens to the first one as I've read yes they are expensive to get replaced/programmed.

Do you know if any Car Insurance cover for replacement keys? as an additional option?

Otherwise make sure you add replacement keys to your insurance :)

Some do. I lost mine and BNZ insurance replaced it with no excess and no no claims impact. Cost them $800 to get replacement
