Not all BP stations in the North Island have 98 either, unfortunately. I have 3 stations close enough that it's not too much of an issue though (local station doesn't have 98).

I don't run anything else. I will not run an ethanol blend fuel in my car.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Do you guys have to use 98 or is it choice. Would 95 be sufficient?

I put 91 otherwise. Ethanol or cooking oil I don't care. But direct inject turbo won't like anything other than 98

Yes but it doesn't do a normal car any harm in the long run. Who cares if my Nissan 4 cylinder is dirty (91) or clean (95). Still a drab either way.

I'm another that doesn't bother with a discount... especially if it's limited to 50 litres! That's just over half a tank in my car. (95L)

I run 95 or 98 with 5% ethanol blend, mainly because that's the choice at the petrol station nearest home (95) and next to work (98 5%). If I put the ethanol blend in, I'll top it up with 95 before half a tank.  My 4.0L V8 needs to run on 95 and is ethanol-safe so I'm all good.

All that said, I put some normal 98 in it, and got 0.2L/100k better fuel economy :)
Totally not worth it for the $0.10 premium I was paying for the fuel.

I think you get better range out of the higher octane.

my 40c worthmoney-mouth

I don't use AA we always shop when there is a 35-40c discount and then buy 100L [the maximum allowed] of diesel and store 50L in containers at home. This way we save $40 each time to hopefully get us through to the next 40c supermarket promotion. In between we only fill at the local self serve which is always 20c/L less than retail. So our worse case is 20c/L discount but hopefully 40c/L. For many months a new local Countdown opposite a PaknSave had 40c off permanently.

We do 14K per annum [approx 868L at 6.2/L 100km] so save >$350 per annum. Additionally when ever I fill the car I check the tyre pressure to be 4 psi higher than the recommended which may save 2-6% per annum in fuel.

only if your car is tuned to use higher octane is it worth it, if your car is not it's just money out the pipe. Higher octane does not equal more btu's
