Ha ha, didn't think of that. I have one particular candidate in mind in my family, trouble is she would think it was an exciting special treat, not a punishment.

TimA: Passat .:R36 wont fit 3 in a row to save itself.
Id suggest a commodore or falcon. They will fit easily. Maybe a E60 BMW or A6 Audi.

I wasn't thinking of three proper car seats in the back of the R36, the oldest we were thinking would go on a booster only in the middle...

I do like Euro build quality and euro goodies....

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much

SUV's and people movers generally allows you a third row or luggage but not both.

If you want three rows and luggage room, you are really looking at a medium to large van.

Thing is, I have 3 rows now and its just awkward. One row would be preferable....Don't want to get into the territory of a van....

I have a Volvo XC70 and we could fit three booster/child seats in the back fairly comfortably.

Boot is capacious and overall it's a great car.

I'd recommend one. Just get a warranty when you buy it...just in case.

Friends have a ford territory with 3 diono radian seats side by side across the rear seat. No third row, just a big boot.

We have a 2012 Ford Mondeo Liftback with 3 Radians across the back seat.

It has an enormous boot equivalent to a Falcon, but being a lift back much easier to access for putting in prams, luggage etc

Having driven a few Mondeo's I can attest to the spaciousness...they're a surprisingly large car inside...

I only have one child, who's 18 and almost as big as me, so it's a while since I had to think about this sort of thing, and never more than two at a time (when taking a friend somewhere), but... a mate has a Ford Territory and while there seems plenty of room in the back seat for three child/booster seats (as RunningMan says) his also has rear-facing fold-down seats behind the back seat and his oldest (about 6?) prefers it - he likes looking out the back window and waving to people coming up behind. Do you have anything against that layout - or is it not enough space in case you're rear-ended?

Industry experience proves that most mums get Porsche Cayennes and fit 3 baby seats across them too.

Try that.

Some of the wider station wagons will accommodate you if you get narrower car/booster seats and make everyone breath in and fold their arms before you close the doors.

Some starters to look at: -

Ford Falcon etc
Holden Commodore etc
Toyota Camry
Mitsubishi Diamante and Legnum.

I can confirm that a Volvo V70 or XC90 will comfortably fit three children's car seats so older kids in boosters would face no problems.

Might not be in the budget though. The Dodge Journey can also fit them, but is a tighter fit.

As an alternative, this is one of the best ideas I've seen for a long time: http://www.multimac.co.uk/home. Rather than make the car fit the seats, make the seats fit the car. It is essentially a back seat replacement, with up to 4 across.

Not cheap, but they do ship to New Zealand.

Volvo estate. It's the breeder's car of choice I believe - even comes with built in booster cushions these days!

Holden Commodore wagon, but a low km VZ SS would be the pick.

Very long but mountains of boot space and a 5.7l V8 that is surprisingly economical.

Plus with a tune and exhaust you are easily pushing 450bhp and running 13 sec 1/4 miles all day every day.

BTT, My father used to have a G6E and whenever they hauled all 3 grandkids (two boosters and a babyseat) it was a door panel to door panel affair, they just fit but was a right pita to actually get to the seatbelt latches to buckle the booster seated kids in as in door open, pull seat aside to reach seatbelt latch.

Reality is there is not many affordable cars wider than a falcodore so seat choice will be the dealbreaker as much as car choice imho
