I have no idea, it has all around disc brakes but I cannot get down to the wheels let alone look under the car. I have not purchased repair manuals in decades so don't know what it may have.

used to have a new Nissan that had brake problems among other things, i complained to nissan on the website and they were very empathetic and went above and beyond call of duty to make sure i am happy and replaced the whole brakes free even though it was my fault (apparently)

I would suggest you type someething like -

surely one cannot accept that i paid $40,000 (or whatever sum) to expect to have to live with squeal. please fix it, remove it, replace it. thank you for your understanding etc

I think most cars these days use something similar for the park brake. Park brakes are usually mechanically operated and not hydraulic like the main brakes.

I'd say the problem isn't an issue from a safety stand point but just very annoying. I'd guess it's brake dust or a small stone rubbing and only happens when the wheel moves backwards.

One other thing to consider is rust on the brake disks. The disk can have a thin rust layer form over night. Mine will give a rumbling sound when I apply the brakes for the first time after the car has been parked overnight. After a one or two good applications of braking the rust is and the noise is gone.

Is the noise there every time or just after it's been parked for a period? Will a good dab of the brake pedal stop the noise? If it's rust that'll be hard to stop happening

Otherwise I'd say pulling off the back wheels and checking for abnormal brake wear, stuck stones or dust will be the way to go.

What I mean is if the noise is coming from the park brake then the pads/discs are the wrong place to look.

WOW, a google of this suggests that this is a common problem across a lot of Nissan models. A quick look at a couple of search results and I found this thread that suggests that changing to Hawk aftermarket pads cured the problem. Maybe worth a shot if you are desperate - they seem to be available in NZ.

after a short time of no squeal it has returned with interest. It is now almost constant in reverse and very very loud. I am now considering entering discussions with the dealer with regards to the CGA as this is wholly unacceptable in a new car with less the 12,000lkm

Why do you need the CGA?

You bought the car new with (presumably) at least 3 years of manufacturer's warranty?

Agreed and yep it was new, doesn't hurt to remind these guys of their legal responsibilities though.

The Nissan Dealer has come back saying they want the vehicle to grind the Rotors and to replace the front Disc Pads. Now the vehicle has done just a few 100Km since it's last "repair" of the problem when I was told the Rotors were fine except for a very small lip on the edge of the Rotor that was removed
and that the Disc Pads were also fine.

I find it hard to believe that a car that has done less than 12,000KMs would need brake Disc replacement and the Rotors machined this after being told things like.... "its normal for modern brakes" however I have owned a lot of new modern cars none has exhibited this behaviour and I don't hear cars squealing all around Wellington.
Another remedy I was told by a dealer was to take it up a hill like the Rimutaka's and ride the brake the whole way down to heat the brakes to high temperature to burn off material..... hmmmm no thanks.

I fell my email is filling with BS. My patience is running out faster

My money is still on the parking brake, not the pads/rotors.
