Really? My wife has a 6 year old Mazda, last work car was a Mazda, and looking on-line all references are to the age-old-standard 12 months or 10,000 km. Crikey when we picked up our new work Fords their service interval was 30,000 km! I note my garage is now issuing the reminder stickers for my old beast at 15,000 km, up from 10,000 km. I would be extremely surprised that any car would sell with such a short service interval.

My diesel has 6 months interval service or every 15,000km. I do close to that every 6 months. That's why the car comes with 10-year warranty.

Definitely 6 monthly service intervals on the new Mazdas, although the first 3 years (or 100,000KM) are free.

I will take it to a local workshop that I trust. It is closer as well!

I find that very hard to believe (triple the price). More likely they were different spark plugs, like iridium's, which last much longer. I don't think I would trust something luike a spark plug if it was 1/3 of the price, especially considering how long they last.

In the past - I have always been told that I can choose which spark plugs. By default, they always use the best spark plugs, hence the price.

In all honesty, if you are just getting oil change and filter, brake fluid level etc you'll be better off to do it yourself than sending it to a local garage. I don't think they did anything more than that at the local garage anyway. The diagnostics that they run at the dealership is kinda different. It did smooth out our Ford after I sent it to them for service last month. Apparently there was a 'software' update for my car which kinda smooth out the drive.

well a full set of lazer iridium's for my Jazz from honda with a trade discount are $116.61 incl GST and shipping , on trademe they are $39 each + shipping. so about the same price. Retail from honda probably 30% more.

but the ones on trademe will be parallel imported ones, not that it would really matter too much.

Before I decided on the Mazda3 one of the alternatives I considered was the Kia Pro C'eed GT and this also requires six monthly servicing. However, my Kia Rio was annual which I think is much more common across most vehicles on the market currently.

most of that stuff can be done yearly.

i do realise that its important to keep up the servicing during the warranty period to ensure there are no issues within that period.

but afterwards, i would only be servicing it every 10-15000km.

i take my car into the dealer every 40,000km or so, for specialist items, as i can do everything else at home myself.

Our vehicles get serviced as per manufacturers schedule. The dealer contacts us, confirms appointment and picks up the vehicle concerned and returns it all pain free and groomed. All adds to worry free ownership.

for most it will be the former. unless it was a company rep vehicle/courier etc most wouldnt do that many km in 6months.

my dealer mechanic friends say that following the km over the time is fine. as long as the stuff gets done

It was stressed to us on purchase that we have to follow the schedule exactly in order to get all free services. If we're late for one, we miss it and will have to wait for the next scheduled service.

Sounds like an ideal situation if you can afford it. Full service lease perhaps? I am sure you will be paying handsomely for this service somewhere along the line.

My dealer services use to be upwards of $700 - $800 each time. Since changing to a local garage that is now sub $300 on average. And yes they have all the tools and diagnostic equipment just the same.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Wow. That would certainly make me reconsider buying another Mazda. 6 months is ridiculously short.
