I thought many top end Audi and VW aren't built in Germany.

Probably some are built in the US, but AFAIK, Skoda are only built in the Czech republic.

For high-end VW and Audi, you would expect excellent build quality anyway, whether they are made in the US or Germany. AFAIK, they don't make high-end VW or Audi in China.

Wow, a lot more global than I expected. Skoda are made in India, China and the Ukraine as well as where they started in the former Czechoslovakia.

We are going a bit OT here though...

I'd disagree. I've had a 2015 Skoda Octavia for the last six months (2 litre turbo diesel) and love it. No issues with build quality whatsoever. Am pondering whether to sell and get the new Skoda Superb which is... superb ;)

Fair comment

I was just going on my experience when I rented a Skoda Octavia in Ireland and then comparing it with the VW Golf I have now. Things were broken and it rattled a lot. Also the standard of equipment wasn't as good as my Golf.

Then again, the Octavia was a rental, so probably not a fair comparison.

My folks said when I bought a Skoda that in their time (they're in their 60s) no-one bought Skoda because it was so crap. Quite different now it's under VW ownership :)

I'm a massive fan of the VW Golf. Had one for three weeks, goes like an absolute rocket. Great cars.

My wife just purchased a new Skoda, it's build quality and equipment list far exceeds through Japanese Marques, Ford or GM vehicles we have owned. When due my Nissan will also be replaced with Skoda Superb or VW.or Audi.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

That probably a very skewed result to try and boost the doomed US auto industry. Buick, Cadillac ? Wtf US vehicles are horrible and dearly loved by the auto repair business.

A buyer of a $20k Buick may be less likely to report smaller things as issues, or may just let them get sorted at a next service. A buyer of a $100k BMW is less likely to accept this situation. Remember, this is owner-reported faults, not an actual faults or issues count, and is reasonably broad in what is accepted as a fault - some things that may be accepted as low build quality in a cheaper car would be considered a fault in a higher end vehicle.

Exactly, how can you compare the number faults when some cars on that list have 10x the amount of tech that can go wrong compared to others.

BMW owner complains that the massaging unit in the drivers lumbar area seems a little fast...

When I looked at the Skoda Octavia RS the base package seemed well priced, but the equipment level was quite ordinary. It was going to require a whole lot of over-priced options to match the spec of the similarly priced Mazda that I ended up buying.

Things like sunrooves, premium audio and adaptive cruise control are now standard on high end Japanese and Korean cars, whereas the Europeans still expect you to pay a extra for them.
