Thanks for the replies. Have just spoken to my car insurer and they have advised that this is nothing to do with them as my car was not involved. They've advised me to sit tight and wait for the other party's insurer to contact me. Person I spoke to said it was a very strange situation and that in 99% of cases it is the reversing party who is deemed at fault.

That makes sense. Do you have contents insurance, that normally includes liability insurance as well. (Which hopefully it won't come to because I don't feel that you're liable.)

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Yea I do have contents insurance also. This seems to get more and more complicated though.. Just spoken to my contents insurer and they have advised since it is a unit title development, it is up to the Body Corporate's insurer to deal with this and either the owner of the car pays for damages caused to the door, or Body Corporate pays for his repairs.

On the face of it, a driver reversing into a hazard did so because they were not driving with due care and attention. His fault.

Don't even know why they would involve you at all. They backed into a gate owned buy the building.

Tell them to go away if they contact you. Pass their details on to the building owner to claim any damage to the gate.
