I can't comment on other sites, but I've used the Beaurepaires in Alicetown Lower Hutt a couple of times, and they were very good. They visually checked all the suspension and tyres, printed out colourful reports showing the status before and after their various adjustments. Very friendly and happy to discuss what they planned and what they found. I'd suggest talking to your local Beaurepaires staff, and see if you want to use them.

Seems that individual experiences vary.  I was recommended to use them and they were rubbish.  Damaged part of my suspension due to not knowing how to adjust it and just using a big screwdriver to lever it into position instead of loosening the bolts holding it in place.  Steering alignment was quite a way off.  Their response was that it was my fault for having a non-standard car and alignment request.

Tried the Melling outlet, also on recommendation.  Ended up arguing with the staff about what my alignment was due to confusion over toe in or out being positive or negative.  Again, got blamed for wanting a non-standard alignment.  It's a race car.  They knew that before they started work on it.  And were supposedly happy to work to my settings.  However, they got them 100% wrong and refused to acknowledge the misunderstanding or attempt to clarify the settings, just wanted to blame me for it.

I now use Beaurepaires Upper Hutt.  The guys there are friendly and knowledgeable.  They are happy to work with me to sort my alignment settings out and provide useful advice and are keen for feedback on what works or doesn't.  This attitude gets my repeat business.

That explains a looooot of things

Was many years ago... Or do you mean the OCD? :p

No. My car.

Took it for 3 alignments over 12 months and each time it got worse.

Turns out my alignment problem was due to a steering arm ball joint wear to the point of 2 more mm = car falling off the ravine.

And they didn't pick up on that? Not that it surprises me really... That's why I use proper alignment places.
