I got a $50 fixed one to put in the mr2.

Wifi on it is so slow that it takes 9 mins to copy a 3 min clip off the camera, and the stupid thing shuts down a min or so after the key is turned off even if the wifi is active and transfering something. Hope the expensive branded one is better than the dirt cheap one for the wifi side of things.

lNomNoml:I want to know if AMI would do anything other than saying it's my problem, I know there is a huge chance the camera won't pickup anything but for the chance that it gets their rego and you can hear them knock my car I want to be able to claim for it.

Yeah, it's a good question.  In my microscopic experience with a claim with AMI they were not willing to contact the other driver until that driver called them and admitted guilt.  They would not make the phone call even having the number, and I don't think having video would change that.  On the other hand, if you have the licence plate you could file a complaint with the police, which is probably what AMI expect you to do anyway.

The police used my dashcam evidence for a crash that actually happened to the car in front of mine. The constable said it halved the amount of work that is normally done to establish fault and whether any charges needed to be laid.

Have also used it for an insurance claim where the other driver tried to blame me but the video evidence backed up my details.

And yes, has also been fun to upload videos of stupid drivers too.

Worth every cent!

Just a front cam or front and rear? Records to SD card?

Front camera only. It's a Mini 0903 (Nano Q) - cost about $180 from Amazon. Brilliant quality for it's size and yes, records to SD Card.

FWIW here is what $50 gets you, but I have now seen them for $40 with a back camera as well, not sure if the front is the same quality tho.

Do people plug these into the cig lighter? And does the SD card record continuously over and over until you ask it to keep something?

And what do people think about using an iphone to do it say on a rental car for example?

Yes you can, but I will be plugging it into my Vicovaction Power Plus for Parking Mode, Yes

I don't have an opinion, it would kill the battery after a while

This is the Dashcam I ordered

I will be using this with my Dashcam

I bought a dashcam called A119 on eBay, from an Asian supplier on eBay.

It's usually NZ $130 delivered.

It has 2K resolution & 1080P 60FPS.

It's also very "stealthy".

wow $700 pinger for a dashcam. Would be nice to see what it is (make/model).

No one to be a downer on your party but I do hope for your sake the local crims in your area are not simply going to recognise a quality cam and smash n grab it.

I had a $100 one that did 1080p. Awesome footage, continuous loop recording, button to save last 2 minutes, micro sd, gps.

They don't like Aussie summers... I'm glad the LiPo backup battery didn't set fire to my car when the camera melted in the sun on a 40 degree day. :D

I'm about the spend about $700 on a dashcam for my new suzuki swift. It cost me a bit, maybe not as much as most people but I would like to get a dashcam in the event that someone damages it and I have evidence showing who did it.

I get really worried someone is going to pull up next to my car and ding it and walk off, it seems to be the norm here but I would prefer if I knew who did it and were held accountable for it.

My question is, am I able to give the video recording as evidence or would I be wasting my time and nothing would be done about it?

I use a dashcam mainly to record road trips......and hopefully something interesting. I was gutted in Albany last year the ONE DAY I didn't use the dashcam a BIG boat came off a trailer and rolled around on the road in front of me. It would have been awesome on video......except it wasn't.

But I do have a record of the woman driving the people mover who slammed into the right side of me as we were both turning right into Greenlane East. "I didn't see you!"......despite me being in FRONT of her in the next lane. I took that to mean she didn't even look.

I have a new dashcam and it also has a rear camera.....and honestly....I could not be bothered running the wire across the ceiling of the car to the rear window....so anything form behind, I have no record.

But if I rear-end someone else? I'll be able to prove I was in the wrong. No question. ;-)

For that reason, I now maintain big following distances....because the camera won't lie if you're tailgater.

DAMN!!! :(

I got some good ones of people using the left turning lane to go straight. No accidents though.

Of course now it's melted. It'll work if plugged in, but I'm too scared to put it in my car in summer again. ;p
