Oy, isn't there a rule here that you cannot use the words trump and quality in the same sentence??? :-)

hairy1: Rainx is the answer. Wiper blades become a bit irrelevant if you use it properly.

Yep - the washer additive Rain-X @30mL/L plus the Philm Off detergent at 50mL/L and you don't even need the wipers over about 60km/h - the water just sheets off on its own.

The only problem with Rain-X is on really cold nights the screen will fog on the outside until it gets some heat into it so you have to leave the wiper on a short intermittent setting to keep it clear until that happens.

I get years out of wiper blades and use them to clean the screen most times I drive anywhere.

When I googled Wurth nothing comes back, but a page told me Wurth or Bosh are both good. Partmaster has plastic / metal blades for $5 / $10 individually with free shipping, so not too bad if they're quality. I'l have to replace the whole assembly on one car as they're getting a bit rusty.

Any opinions on plastic vs metal backed refills?

Wurth are wholesalers. If a garage has set up a trading account / regularly sees the sales rep (or likes them), I'm sure they will purchase the products they sell.

Metal back is all the rage... it means you can form them a bit better and are much stronger so will carry smoother.

Given this is a safety issue I went with a Bosch wiper, one you buy as a unit not just a refill, a single one to try it out on my runabout as the existing one was starting to get a touch of rust. Reading suggested they should perform well and last a reasonably long time. When it wears out you have to replace the whole assembly, not just the blade, so costs are probably quite a bit higher over time.

A tip: don't let the little center plastic bit that helps secure them in fall out of those fancy blades, it took AGES to work out how to get it back in and fit the wiper blade because there's no instructions or diagrams anywhere.

Yeah it can be annoying but I think that the pros outweigh that con.

I noticed last time I bought Rain-X it changed from a cloudy white solution to a clear colourless one. Seems to work the same though so I'm not sure what's different.

Once I had to get the wiper blades replaced on a Mercedes work van, tried all the auto places, no, went to the dealer, special type of wiper blade (go figure!), work bank account was $147 worse off for 2 wiper blades

And do they fit by squeezing some clips?
