Yeah I understand that but I have 5 years until I can get reasonable cost insurance. Obviously building a good driving record has no effect when you're young, and I'm not keen on paying $300 extra a year just to get a small no claims discount. If I have to claim for an accident where I am at fault, I would lose it anyway (not that I expect to crash anytime soon).

My parents literally take my car out for drives when I'm at work (they don't live far from where I park and have a set of keys) so they are definitely driving it more than me.

I may look into the AMI young drivers insurance, but actually I moved from AMI > AA because of how slowly they processed claims for my friends in multiple instances (kept assigning their cases to people on leave so there was a huge hold up each time -_-)

I'd say your friends were unlucky as I have always had claims dealt with very quickly by AMI.

Numerous claims with ami- no problems. Yes people do go on leave but that's life.

Yep I'll get this sorted first and then see what my options are for insurance with the new car.

And I'm aware people go on leave - but why assign cases to someone you know is currently and will be on leave for the next x weeks.

Have you looked at second hand parts?  Sometimes you can get lucky and find a bumper in the correct colour from a wrecker.

Even if it's the wrong colour, it may be cheaper to repaint second hand than buy new.

Yep looked at that first but due to being written off for structural damage, I can't just replace the bumper and go. I was told it was the structural repair that made the repair so expensive so sourcing my own bumper won't reduce the cost too much and I'd have to show them evidence that it had been repaired to meet the safety standards before it can be re-registered. By then, it would have been better off to purchase another car.

Ah, the joy of "crumple zones". Personally it's something I can do without (statistically how often will you need it? It's not like you're going to live forever anyway) and I'm really not looking forward to the day I have to buy a car that is an uneconomical repair after a minor nudge from a careless road user. Even the one airbag in my car is too many for me - I'd be happier with zero. I used to do a fair bit of gravel road driving and I'd pull the ABS relay out between WoFs.
