That ad doesn't even state what model LEAF it is - Japanese should be S,X or G. Which charger is fitted is a fairly fundamental spec, along with what capacity battery is fitted (24 or 30kWH), and the dealer really should know both of these.

As @afe66 points out though, the time to charge display will also display 2 times if the faster charger is fitted - assuming you have access to the car.

I'm still struggling to find out whether the model I'm looking at is 3.3 or 6.6kW (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/nissan/auction-1275740565.htm). Even the Japanese spec appears to have nothing about it (http://ev.nissan.co.jp/LEAF/PDF/leaf_specifications.pdf). I'll probably have to go back to the dealer and physically look at the charger under the hood, maybe there's a label or something (the dealer doesn't appear to know already).

If I'm going to have to get a charge point installed I really need to know if 32A will come in useful or not...

No, it doesnt' have to be charging at the time as its one of the default views. To be honest I'm not sure you can actually have the ignition "on" when charging.

If the dealer cant tell you its got the bigger charger in it, Id say they dont know what they are doing and you should walk away from them.

As the 6.6kw charging unit is an optional extra, I would have expected the dealers to make a point about mentioning it in the advertisement. So I'd say that no they dont have the charger.

Personally I wouldn't rush out and buy a charge point straight away. Maybe Run it off a normal power point in the short term to see how slower charging via the mains goes first.

Ok, I think I've determined that it has the 3.6kW charger. I went back to the dealer and did a proper search for the label that he failed to find when I talked to him on the phone. . Compare that photo to the label on this page: http://www.nzev.co.nz/6-6kw-charger-gen-ii-nissan-leaf-new/.

@RunningMan, the dealers down here (Christchurch) really seem to be scrambling to catch up on their knowledge of the Leaf. Most really don't know what they're talking about, and then if they say they do I'm not sure if I'd trust them anyway.

You can also check out yhi.co.nz. I bought my single-phase, 32amp ROLEC WallPod with a Type 2 socket (I have a type 2 to Type 1 cable and Type 2 is the new NZ standard) from them a couple of weeks ago.
