the latest civic type r is coming to nz !

hopefully it won't be stupidly priced like the handful of grey import fk2's in nz.
those were originally $90k.
they are proving hard to sell even at $60k

Thank you all for the suggestions, we'll take them onboard and do a few test drives. Also liking the look of the Skoda Rapid, so we'll see what that's like (other than not actually being rapid...).

just remember that the impreza is the most stolen car in NZ so your insurance on it will show that . anyone found this to be the case?

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Premium on my Subaru is the same but there is a clause for higher $1000 excess on intentional damage in any part of the car including theft.

The old Imprezas with frameless windows are a particularly easy target, and there are tons of them around, so I'm not surprised. Appreciate the suggestion, but insurance is not a big enough factor to impact the decision :)

Personally I would only consider a Subaru to get AWD.  Boxer engines sound great but they're mechanically more complex with more potential problems as a result.

I think it's mainly dodgy used imports that get stolen. Modern vehicles with decent immobilisers are pretty hard to steal if the keys are kept secure.
