For people outside of Wellington, that side of Willis street is a dedicated bus lane and no other traffic can use it. Traffic heading in that direction must use an alternative route such as Victoria Street, which runs parallel.

Sometimes you see tourists going down it by accident.  The signs leading onto it aren't that great and could easily be missed if you weren't familiar with the area. Sometimes you'll hear the buses blast their extremely loud horns in protest, scaring pedestrians.  I just find that to be overly arrogant as once you are on that stretch there are very few opportunities to get off it until you get to the end.

So ti takes 3 guys to do this (one pointing camera, other two looking comfortable on)? What a waste of taxpayers money.

They are often seen in pairs anyway, which isn't a bad idea for such a loved profession.  The other guy may have just been walking by or they may be doing training.  Anyway, if that irritates you then you clearly haven't driven past any roading crews lately.

Oh believe me, they irritate me too.

Especially the lollipop guys, which now seem to be a multi person job.

Linuxluver: ... In Auckland, ...
This is the road code, surely it should apply in all of NZ, not just Auckland?

Is it? OK.

I was being careful in case it's a local by-law thing.

It used to be a by-law but it's now the same nationwide as it's in the regulations. It was ridiculous in Auckland: North Shore was one distance - Auckland City was another.

Every time (quite often) I see those folks with the video camera in Greenlane collecting money for the AT, I am not happy. 20 meters from them dozens of drivers every day overtake small island, driving on the other side of the road creating head-on collision situations which is quite dangerous. And nobody from AT/Police seems to care.

I'm talking about each end, which seems to require 2 or more these days. One to hold the radio, while the other flips the sign.
