You are optimistic, that will help :-) Climate change will help me get the sea front house I have been lusting after. Currently I live 800 m from the sea and I expect that to reduce steadily .....
Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

Is this the alternative thread to the "buying an EV" thread :D
It's the thread for people who don't yet understand how serious climate change already is.
Miami is gone....it's just a matter of time. The worst-case scenarios are proving to be optimistic.
So is any comparable city on coats everywhere. The CO2 already released - evenif we stopped right now - has locked their fate in.
Keep burning the fossil fuels....and it just gets worse and worse.
Seriously.....this is a problem we all need to own. Bravado and BMWs aren't something our kids and their kids will thank us for.
Right, because electric cars are suitable for everyone and every purpose right? Or are you suggesting that no-one owns boats, and changes their lifestyle so they can all own electric?
I mean I am all for doing more to protect the planet, but your brand of zealtory harping doesn't help your cause, I think you'll end up just annoying people and turning them off your message.
Surely, you can find a different way of getting your message across?

I agree that not all folks are going to be able to use EV, however as the percentage of those who can , do then it becomes more viable for the ICE that is needed to remain. However the title of the thread is some what provocative and bordering on troll like.

Well, LinuxLuvr has been around long enough to know he shouldn't have taken the bait :)
To my mind, it's the wrong thread for him to participate in. Does he think he is going to change anyone's mind who agrees with the OP? (if that was his intention with the thread).
People will buy EVs as the default consumer vehicle when the purchase price and performance are right. It will happen. Just a matter of when.
Like any technology change; there is a gradual uptake led by enthusiasts, then a mainstream rush, followed by a long tail.
Keep in mind that cars are a major asset for most people, you don't buy a new car every year or two.
Taxi drivers have adopted hybrids in droves, which proves businesses will pick up technology when it is right.
IMO when you see taxi drivers operating battery powered EVs in NZ, you will know the technology has truly made it here.

You're right.
But I do applaud Linuxluver, and I dont see his postings being zealatory. Climate change is a huge deal, and our future children and so on will suffer. Not might, but will. Thus, for me, I see his utterings as needed.
Up until I was physically unable to use boats I had been a boat owner for a long time, right now there are no EVs that I would trust to do the towing and none that I would put in the water to launch be it ramp, beach or river launch. The Telsa X has the towing capacity but the range on NZ terrain would be god awful. In Blakamins case if he is taking his vehicle into the Australian hinterland he would be very fool hardy to do it with the current EV offerings.

It's all part of MAGA. Sure, there'll be a bit of collateral damage but once Bangladesh is gone, just think of all the t-shirt manufacturing that can go back to the US.
I know you think you're being funny. But seriously....that 163 million people screwed because others are selfish and thougthtless....and "funny".
People like me are trying to help others make informed choices.....so no one whose grandchildren die from the consequences of their own negligence can say they weren't told. They just failed to understand the likely outcomes, thinking them too far-fetched to be possible.
Continuation bias. A lot of people die from continuation bias.....hard enough in the moment....and REAL challenge to overcome when talking about a time scale in decades.

This is all getting very off topic. Want to discuss the benefits of electric cars and impact of climate change, there are threads for that.
Back on topic Supposedly petrol 2L cars rated at ~3.5L/100km are in our future (specifically Mazda 3).

That rate of fuel use will be cheaper than electric in many countries.

So I currently have 2 V8's and the Mrs has a diesel. All BMWs
Awesome. I'm a BMW fan myself. Any manuals?

No Sir, Only in the X3 range with a 2.5 or 3L 6'er for the SUV's of that generation.
Last manual 5 series was the E39 and 3 series E90 in NZ. We can order manual 5 and 3 series from Europe still if you can wait a few months. Everything before that you can get in Manual, But be ready for the premium. Best options for a sports car would be a coupe E36 M3/328I M sport.

Tesla model X is getting close at 2250kg towing capacity
...
And has 2 places to charge in South Aussie.
...
Ah yes, statistics are like a bikini - what they reveal is interesting but what they hide is critical.
1) There are more places to charge an EV in S.A. than there are gas stations because you can charge EV's from a standard 3 pin plug and most EV's are charged this way, overnight at home.
2) Tesla's (with an adaptor lead) can recharge using generic EV fast charges, so there are dozens and dozens of places to recharge when on the way to the boat ramp in S.A. (refer image).
Such is the baseless fud and propaganda against EV's.
Granted though, that the OP's fleet would be far better at towing and launching boats than an EV, although I bet he isn't volunteering to dip the back end of his nice new car in the salty sea for anyone.
