That van looks different to me too, but very hard to tell from that video and based solely on that one photo.  The one in the video looks newer and like a different design to the one in the photo. Whether that's the van or not is probably a moot point. Even if it was I doubt the police or even insurance would do anything based solely on that video, so unless the owner admits it I'd say you're out of luck...

Is roof the same? doorhandles? wheel design? etc - video and lighting makes picking them out pretty hard... And even if they are that proves nothing other than a similar van was in your area on the night.   As in the first response if you're absolutely convinced it is the same van you could potentially knock on their door and ask if they had any accidents recently - perhaps mention you have a video of it and you were just wondering before you hand it over to your insurance and police to let them analyse it.  Maybe they watch too much CSI and think the police might be able to enhance and zoom onto the licence plate ;D    But yeah I suspect it's a different van so I'd be careful not to make any actual accusations.

For the record, unless the other party admits liability there seems little that can be done to get them to pay up.

My wife was rear ended by a van a few months ago. A glancing blow fortunately, but the driver just took off. Even with a witness, the plate number and description of the van, and despite the driver taking off rather than stopping, the police are not interested AT ALL.

The insurance company is equally toothless. They believe they've tracked down the drivers address and keep sending them letters but that doesn't achieve anything either. I'm not even sure camera footage would help.

Yeah I was backed into at Mitre 10 in Crofton Downs just after Christmas.  We were in a corner car park adjacent the other person's.  I had reversed all the way and was stopped and about to drive forward, then that person reversed into me and hit my car above the rear wheel arch.  They didn't admit liability and I had to pay my excess, even though the only possible way for me to get damaged as if they were liable.  It wasn't worth the effort to try and recoup the cost given they weren't even claiming their own insurance to cover their costs - which also indicated to me they knew they were at fault.

Oh well, __it happens.  I did get to repair some paint chips at the same time for only a little bit extra on top of the excess so my 2015 car looks brand new again.  Every cloud....
