Thanks will do that. Plus I think I have located a professionally refurbished unit so might go down that path also.

I think I might have done my original garage a disservice (which by the way is Page). They didn't say they would not install a part I provided, they would not warranty it. Fair enough since I recently had a bunch of other parts I sourced new from a US site that were way cheaper than here and Page installed them. Confirmed the quality was fine.

So I will get the refurbished part which should be safe.

As an aside does anybody need a pair of front struts for BMW 525i, 525iT, 530i 535i and 540i,  They are Bilstein Touring.

I bought fronts when I needed rears and so they are spare :-(. Make e a reasonable offer,

Rickles:

Get a professional assessment and opinion from Auto Brake & Clutch in Martin Square … they do the whole lot from servicing/rebuilding through to parts sourcing.

Just to close this out. ABC said they could refurbish the part and quoted $250 but needed the parts. I found a enthusiast repairer in California who had the parts for about U$25 but when they learnt what model car I had they said he could not sell the parts since the repair work is very complex and he didn't trust anybody to do it. He has done over 200 himself. So he offered a refurbished part for US$115 + US$50 shipping on the proviso that I return my failed part for him to refurbish.

Seemed like a good deal. I have received the part and when it's installed I will send my leaking one back and hopefully all will be well again.
