eracode: Classic and iconic designs from the past - Spitfire, E Type, Concorde .....

Feel free to add others if they’re really in this company - I don’t think this is too far OT.

DH Mosquito, Unimog, Kitchen Aid Mixer

Some of my favorites (possibly qualifying as iconic) would be pretty much anything with a Merlin (or two) in it, DH Hornet, BAC Lightning, Citroen SM, Rover SD1, Land Rover, pretty much anything art deco, streamline moderne.

Should probably include the Citroen GS in that list, since the French had hand with it at :)

Or the time Phil Collins played at a gig at Wembley Stadium AND Philadelphia for the same Live Aid concert at opposite sides of the world.

I would add the Boeing 747 as an iconic plane. I remember being awestruck when I first saw it as a kid.

And Concorde looked so tiny up against them too!

Somewhere, under the rainbow...

This taken at Woodbourne.  Please do not repost this image.  If anybody wants a high-res version, PM me (the owner is a deceased RAF pilot).

Hi, remember the first time seeing the Concord up close was at an air show in the UK, what stuck me was its miniture dimensions, but that for both those pics (Fred and OP).

Cheers

Cyril

Pretty sure you realise this is the internet...

You might want to delete it before Google bot sees it.

I agree.  AFAIK it's the only digital copy that's ever been posted.  But yeah - I was thinking about whether I should have posted it, and came back to delete it and saw your post.

Geektastic: The man who used to live opposite my parents went on it.

He had a job as a very senior accountant/director type for the European arm of a US firm. There was some sort of deal going down that required his appearance in person in NYC to sign some very important papers etc and attend a very important meeting.

Having already cancelled several trips, he was going away with the family and refused to cancel another so the company said they would figure out something.

On the day before he was going away, he was collected by car at home, whisked to Heathrow (about an hour), flew to NY on the morning flight, signed papers and had the meeting at JFK then returned same day on the pm flight and was home again to have supper.

We should have more aircraft like that, not less.

I believe it was Jeremy Clarkson who said that the problem which doomed the Concorde in the end was that it was too slow. While it was the fastest passenger jet and was pitched at travel like you described, by the early 2000s that sort of travel was being required less and less. Instead most of that sort of business can be conducted over the internet without the need for face to face. As such the Concorde was competing against optical fibres crossing the Atlantic instead of 747s.
